I also received my letter for engineering recently. Does this mean I have a higher chance for a receiving a scholarship even though I haven’t received any information yet?

bump. Has anybody received anything from the business school about james scholars?

norcalryan: my son received the james scholars email from U of I about 1-2 weeks ago. He was admitted into the business school in December.

erm what exactly is in the James scholars program?

UIUC’s equivalent of a cross college honors program:
it’s easy to get in, but hard to stay in…
^^ that’s what I’ve heard.

I can see why it’s hard to stay in, you have to maintain a 3.5 GPA…which for an engineering curriculum can probably be a bit challenging

What do you mean by easy to get in? What percentage of people get into the James Scholars program?

I’m not sure about the exact percentage but if I had to GUESS it’d be slightly less than 10%?

But in terms of how easy it is… as i keep posting on many of the UIUC’s threads… if you have solid numbers 33? ACT or 3.75? GPA (the numbers are just speculations based upon acceptees in know of) then you will most likely be qualified as a james scholar… again, my numbers are only speculation so fellow CCers don’t go crazy based on this post.

I had stats better than those and was not accepted into James Scholars yet.

All you need to get into James Scholars is ACT Math of 35 or higher, OR a class rank within the top 1%

There’s no set percentage, one year it culd be 98%, another year it could be 5%. It is all dependent on the applicants, since here the bar is static and not dynamic going along with the quality of the applications

james scholar school of business

^ I’ve seen that SN somewhere before

i looked online for the information when i got the letter and all i remember seeing is that you automatically get in with ACT of 33 or SAT of something and something else, I think one or the other gets you in because my GPA isn’t that high and I didn’t do great on my SAT but I got a 33 on my ACT

well if you got into the bhp or was invited to interview of the bhp, you automatically got into the james scholar program – that’s how it was for me.

thomas192
got a 34 on ACT, 35 on math and didn’t get James Scholar for LAS

@billytuck

I think you have to be in the top 1% of your class too. But it could be either that OR the required ACT/SAT scores. I just got the letter last week, so you might still be getting a letter.

I got a 2090 SAT [translates to a 30 ACT] and I was, at the time of my application in the top 5 percent of my school. However, my school is also super competitive and whatnot so there doesn’t seem to be a formula.

If you are in the school of engineering, you need the ACT math of above [33? or 34?] to get in, or you could be in the top 1%ile of your graduating class.

From what I hear getting in doesn’t mean much. Staying in is what will actually warrant you some respect (for engineering at least)

billytuck i guess you should get a letter or you might wanna call them up… the site i saw said a minimum act score(i guess 32 or 33)OR a min SAT score OR top 1% of the class

sorry i haven’t been on here to see this but @billy…i looked online on the illinois website and it said that the requirements were 33 ACT OR 1450 SAT OR top 1% of the class.
