Now that the applications, recommendations, essays are reached where it is supposed to be .....The waiting game begins.
When do we start hearing from schools? Do they wait until March 8 to hear about rejects too? Do we contact school before march 8?

All the schools release results on 10-March. That covers admit/reject/WL results.

If you receive an offer of admission, you have until 10-April to accept. If you accept, you will have to pay an initial deposit and sign a statement that you are financially responsible for the entire tuition amount if you renege.

If you are offered a place on the WL, then you will be asked if you want to stay on the WL or not. Candidates on WL may get drawn from the WL pool after 10-April. For the most selective schools, you can count the number of kids drawn from the WL using the fingers on an amputee hand…

Yes - it is waiting time (for those who have finished - some schools have a 1/31 or 2/1 deadline). Schools will let you know their decision - accept, reject or wait list.

Generally March 10 is the date, but this year it is a Sunday, so schools seem to have a variety of approaches.
-one school will have decisions online on March 9
-one will EMAIL on March 10
-one will MAIL on March 11

It may take a few days to get all of your decisions. I would not contact a school asking for decision information until several days after their posted decision date.

And I would change the March 8 date in your mind to the week of March 11.

Question: We scanned, emailed and sent everything to Exeter today. Do you think the application has to be postmarked or received by today? We live west, so there’s a big difference. The emails were a backup plan.

They told us as ling as it was there VIA email by midnight Eastern, we were good. I’d call about reg mail but online was fine for everything, we were told. Best of luck!

And for that posting on the 10th, many schools say they will email or have their admissions websites’ info available at Midnight.

Talk about Midnight Madness!

As for the deadlines, they are generally RECEIVE BY dates, not POST BY dates. Except, we were told during our admissions cycle last year, for that which cannot be controlled by the applicant (some recs, or transcripts, that may have been requested in a timely manner, but the recommender or school was not so quick… in which case it is best to also give the schools a heads-up that you requested early, and recs are on their way).

“Do we contact school before march 8?”

Unless you have some incredibly compelling reason (child discovered cure for cancer, great aunt left you fortune so you are now no longer applying for FA, etc.), DO NOT email or call the admissions office prior to the published notification date. All of those apps and recommendations and essays are now in their lap and this is THEIR busy season…so phone calls from prospects wanting to know decisions are a very very low priority and probably an unwelcome distraction.

PEA. Deerfield, St Pauls (the three that we know of this year) are clear in their instructions that it is POSTMARKED that matter, no one can control when the PO will deliver something anyway-- so don’t worry. If you have concern (paranoia :)) – just fax a copy of it to the office tonight as well.,

Many schools have a portal to check that things are received; recommendations are most likely to go astray, so give things a few days and see if you can check that they were received. You can re-send recs and supporting documents for a few weeks more.

Thank you so much @etondad, GGG, and GFP! That reassures me.

You’re welcome. Phew!!! One down, right…

Thank goodness~! Let’s have a celebration the Glinda way~! Thank goodness~!

I mailed out some of my envelopes precariously close to the deadline-like, oh, I don’t know, two days before it was due?! So it’s nice to know that I need not fret :)
