Jan 2010 SAT Essay

wow omg

i had the gay topic about opinions ■■■

fu all with the other topic

I talked about how a protagonist in a novel lacked emotional strength but was urged by his brother to appreciate the mundane and unexpected things in life and therefore gained emotional progression productivity.

my personal example was about getting my government project done only because of deadlines and pressure from teacher/parents

my historical example was how martin luther king jr. took the initiative to deliver his “I have a dream” speech and pressured the government to act on civil rights movement.

The Great Gatsby (Jay had conflicting issues with WWI and w/e, didnt have the time (but most importantly, the wealth) to be with daisy (u guys think this fits in any way?

Lyndon B Johnson (no funds for both guns and butter)

recent financial crisis (pressure from bank customers causing runs on banks)

I had the one about discoveries. Also, did most people do 5 paragraph essays? I barely had time to do 4, how on earth did you manage 5 lol.

@ antonioray: I put The Great Gatsby as an example too! Awesome. And yeah, I agree about Gatsby being pressured to succeed financially…

American educational system
Capitalism vs Socialism
Desire to marry before 30

1997 film Gattaca

High schoolers

Hahaha. Wrote about 1.75 pages

I had the discoveries one!
Failed it… T____T

I had the one about are uninformed opinions just as valuable as informed opinions.

I said no and said the following examples:
During a socratic seminar, my classmates said that my friend’s grandfather, a kamikaze pilot, wasn’t a hero and was “stupid.” They were uninformed about Japanese culture, where the kamikaze pilots were considered great heroes to their nations, and their opinions were not valuable because they were rude and unfounded.

Bill Clinton inviting even interns into his initial White House meetings, but then kicking them out later after realizing that their opinions were ridiculous due to their inexperience. They wouldn’t be good for the country’s economy or social reform, so their inexperience and lack of education led to uninformed opinions that were of no good to the President of the United States.

I wrote about these two examples, and I wrote a solid intro and a VERY solid conclusion. I filled up both pages.

Is it absolutely necessary to have three supporting examples? My prompt was asked whether it was necessary to value all opinions, regardless of their educational value. I talked about Orwell’s Animal Farm and wrote about 1.7 page…I’m stunned that everyone had the time to talk about not one or even two but THREE supporting topics!

What was the essay prompt?

I used: 1) How I got 4 research projects to do in my Junior year how I managed to complete them earlier before last minute do time.
2) How my father was about to get fired, but fought his way out of laziness.

Just wondering, how many people used Columbus for the great discoveries one? XD

Fahrenheit 451, Leopold’s Congo, and 1984. Kind of cliche but I prepped those sources before hand so…

Subject was informed opinion (or lack thereof).

People seem to use lots of literature. . . . I tend to like really personal, really true examples. They’re easier to describe and do come from your heart. : )

^Haha, I used robotics too!

Science fair project, FIRST Robotics, hw in general. Although, the sci fair could’ve fallen under the topic of hw, but w/e, I don’t think I failed. Maybe a 7

Heart of Darkness, 1984 and Grigori Perelman’s Proof of Poincare Conjecture about the discoveries.

If anyone were to compare my essays of all my SATs, they would realized I always use the same examples and talk about the same thing with the same format too. =/

lol how do you guys fit 3 examples on 2 pages?

I’ve always only done 2 and barely had enough room
I guess my handwriting’s too big lol

I used General Grant in the Civil War and The Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck

Benjamin Franklin, Isaac Newton, Lord of the Flies.
