okay, so i was rejected ED II, wrote hamilton a letter appealing my decision, and was accepted as a Jan-admit. needless to say i'm ecstatic to recieve any kind of acceptance, especially because as a jan-admit you have the opportunity to study in england through NYU for the 1st semester, but does anyone know anything else about it? did anyone else get this kind of admission? any current students thoughts would be REALLY appriciated :-D

it means youre accepted as a member of the class (2010) but basically cant go to hamilton until 2nd semester. for the 1st semester you can either study abroad in england for hamilton credit through NYU or take courses at another school and transfer them. they want you there but don't have space 1st semester, basically.

wow...:O can you really appeal? If you don't mind, can I ask you some questions for further recommendation to our juniors?
Did you request financial aid? why , in your opinion, did they reject you just to accept you later as a Jan-admit? Do you recommend a Hamilton applicant to do the same thing if he/she happened to be in the same situation?
And...one last question (out of pure curiosity): why didn't you wait for other schools? You really love Hamilton that much? :D (I ask this with admiration, dont get me wrong :) )

haha, i didn't post here cause the message was wayyy long, just ask nhyn. to summarize, though: yes, you can really appeal. most selective schools won't change their mind, but it's worth a shot if you have something to tell the school that you didn't already show in your application. schools just don't like to advertise this because they don't want to get 5000 desperate letters begging for acceptance.

yes, i did originally request financial aid, but i knew i wouldn't get it. and i didn't, hehe, but it's not really stopping me.

i know for a fact that i was rejected because of the other students from my school who applied ED I. they filled up my potential space as an ED II applicant. plus, they were more open to accepting me after my letter because i gave them substantial reasoning for a few poorer grades i had gotten in my junior year.

i would completely recommend trying to appeal to any school (if they accept them) as long as you're not going to repeat what you said in your application. if you did something spectacular, won an award, your grades shot up, or you can explain some failure to reach your potential, then give it a shot! usually selective schools like hamilton will not change their mind, but if you present a reasonable case and they have space on a waiting list or a program like jan-admit (which is much better than WL!) they will want to accomodate you.

lastly, i tried so hard to get into hamilton because i love it. that's it, hehe. it's perfect.

thanks for the long message :D i think its length is totally necessary ^^
anyway, i really admire you for falling in love with a school so ardently :D i also went ED, and now I couldnt help asking myself "wat if" :D
