January 1 deadline

Most post offices are closed on January 1st, what happens if we send it on January 2nd?

It'll be OK.

FEDEX IT! lol...

(if that's even open..plus it'll be pretty expensive in comparison)

FedEx is closed New Year's Day. I would think UPS, DHL, etc. are as well.

If you are mailing your application, they may not notice a Jan. 2 postmark. Hopefully, you will get it done tomorrow and not have to worry about it at all!

Yeah for USPS, I think the last day to get it mailed was yesterday on the 29th. The post office is closed on Sundays and I believe the 31st and the 1st are national (postal) holidays.

Hmmm. It may differ for different post offices; I'd try calling. I called a few days ago to make sure, and my local post office is open tomorrow but closing earlier.

Only the 1st is an official postal holiday. However, good point about some post offices closing early on New Year's Eve. See USPS - National Mail Service Updates
While the link says Express Mail is delivered on the 1st, it cannot be sent that day.

Yeah so i hope i can finish them today, but if something go really wrong can they deny my essays because i sent them 1 day late?

Our local post office is open till 1 pm today. You have a lot more time if you submit on line.

You can always submit it using an automated machine is a post office on JANUARY 1st (even if the package is big). I just called the USPS and they told me that New Year's Eve most postal offices close around noon.

Are these automated machines accessible even when the post office is closed? Does it postmark for you?

Also, make sure your post office has a machine like that. I live in a rural area, and have never seen one.

Editing to add, our post office is open the normal hours today. Maybe that's because we don't have a machine.

Ok, i think i found a solution. USPS might close early but Fedex is still picking up at 7:00PM. Seems like i will have to pay a little extra but at least it will get their on time. Thanks for all your help and ideas

Good luck with all your applications!

Also, many colleges only need a postmark date of Jan. 1, regardless of when the mail actually gets into their hands.

In addition, most colleges would probably accept (but look down on) late submissions, because the more applications they receive, the more selective they can become.

Thanks for all the recommendations. I managed to finish everything on the 29th and got it sent Fedex. They said it should arrive there on the 2nd :)
So thanks again for all the help, i knew i could count on you guys.

Congratulations on sending it successfully!
