January 2009 SAT Critical Reading Discussion

change of topic- did a lot of the answers to the normads deal with diversity/ homogeneity?

I read here that the curves are predetermined.

Man im getting all the same answers as you phlpsun. haha, but yes I put wry amusement also for the same reason

Was the painting one experimental?

pleeeeeeeease be experimental

it's wry amusement because the customers would be in on duping others, along w/ the painter.

But it says that the people wouldn't not lie if asked, no?

(I am defending a wrong answer I know).

Painting wasn't experimental. Sorry

i thought the actual passage for the painting one was interesting!

also for the nomad one, i think most of my answers were about diversity and such. it seemed to be the point of the passage. i had like kind of a lot of trouble with the questions in that one, mostly because i couldn't get a grasp of the reading.

painting was not experiemental.

I actually have heard of the bird story in the painting passage before.

It's wry amusement. In that part of the passage it talked about how the clients may have gone along with the painter bc of a similar sense of humor.

It's not feigned innocence because they say that the people who display these paintings would NOT lie to customers if the customers were to inquire about the origins of the painting. So why would they be feigning innocence? But who knows...I'm a bit unsure too.

What did you guys say was the one thing that the two passages about rock n' roll would AGREE on? I said that both recognized that rock n' roll would extend to all people eventually.

right, so they weren't feigning anything.. they were being wry, or mockingly humorous.

i thought it said the owner would lie about the paintings origins?

i don't remember what i put for that one, but i remember it was between the answer you said and another one and i picked the other one!

i said they agree "people in 1950s didn't know the impact of rock and roll."

yes, busylife, that's what i put. rad.

^ I said the 1950s too.

was the last answer for the diversity passage like

this passage talked about homogenuity.

i also put 1950s..

agree 1950s
agree homogeneity

agree 1950s
don't remember other one

the focus of the passage was on the merit of the nomad's knowledge, which takes a diff approach than our own... and if they conform to our standards, in 50 years our scope of knowledge will suffer.
