January 2010 Math thread

No, unless the curve is SUPER lenient, which is unlikely. It’s only happened once before.

It’s possible but highly unlikely for this test. -1 will probably be 770-780 for this one.

It has happened more than once. Nonetheless, omitting a question on Math is never a good idea if you want an 800.

What? is this verified? It said no primes inbetween? F— -2. Gr.

hey for the 15 students in club A and 12 students in club B. and like 11 are exactly in ONE group. isnt the answer 16…

because lets say 11 of them are in the 12 group. so it remains 1 in the 12 group that is in both. and 15 can also be in both groups. so 1 +15 = 16?

If only 12 people are in one of the clubs, how can 16 be in both?

so how would u do it?

Um… if 11 are ONLY in the 12 group, then only 1 person can be in both.

I just set up a system of equations and solved it.

does anyone remember if this was answer choice A??

then how is it 8. this is the only question i dont get at alll.

I don’t think that it was.

Okay well if you don’t want to use the system of equations this is an easier way to visualize it.

Okay Group A and Group B. A=15 B=12.
First you take away 3 from A because obviously they can’t be in both.
Then you have 12 and 12, and 8 students in ONE club left.
Then you subtract 4 from both, and you get 8 and 8.
So those 8 are in both clubs.

I REALLY don’t remember seeing this. Was this an experimental section?

I don’t remember that either fledgling.

I don’t remember this either

OK, then it was experimental :)

Can someone explain that? Was that the question where you had to find the angle between two diagnols of faces on a cube? I thought it was 90 because in 2D, the diagnols bisect the right angle so 45+45 = 90. In 3D, it would be 1/4th of a circle so 90deg. what am i doing wrong?

Unlike everyone else, I totally suck at math. Would a -9ish keep me in the 600’s still?

lols cookiemonster i remember you

anyways, the 3 diagonals formed a 2D triangle that was kinda jsut floating in the cube

since all 3 diagonals are the same… alakazam 60 degrees each!

8 was choice C btw

I have a bad feeling now although i thought i did well on math earlier… so 1 omit and 1 or 2 wrong how much is that… is it prob. over 750 still or how much
also
for anyone who has taken the sat before was this a harder math or harder overall test or how difficult in relation to others u have taken… cause i wanna take again and this was harder than cb blue book yet easier than barrens sat book

lastly … anyone from Long island take it at HalfHollowHills
