January 2010 Math thread

err im sure its been explained already but im too lazy to go look for it so basically they gave u

PQRS, that they are collinear and that Q and R are midpoints of PR and QS respectively

that means PQ=QR, and that QR=RS
by extension, PQ=RS

the only way for them to be all equal is if each were 6, so they are

so RS is 6
then they gave you that QX is 4, so XR must be QR-QX, 6-4 =2

2 + RS = 8

hope i helped?

Angle x next to the bisected angle ABC was 40

Shouldn’t X be 140 because the bisected angle was 40, while x was the angle outside of the triangle (if this made any sense)

Does anyone remember the question that came right after the students in the band?

whoa

angle x next ot bisected abc was 40?
what was the question for that one?

It’s 140.

Does anyone remember #18 for the first math section?

The one where it gave you two inequalities. Then it combined the two inequalities (xy, x/y and y-x) and asked which ones were correct.

I had trouble on that one. It was either I or I, II and III.

^Nah it was really 140, silverturtle just corrected it in the list. :)

I only ^

I just made up two numbers

Was this the last triangle question? I thought that one was pretty killer.

I think it was I only.

I’m pretty sure both of the questions like that were (I) only.

Oh just kidding, everyone is posting too quickly for me to keep up T_____T

But yes, (I) only for that inequalities one.

Thanks. I was really worried about that b/c II seemed to work (stupid me didn’t bother to sub in numbers and just did the theoretical work). But there was no I and II. So I just put (I) and hoped I was right. :)

What was the answer to the two overlapping triangles question? It was the last question to one of the math sections.

Can someone explain to me the question about the band members

I remember doing something along the lines of

Band = 3* Orchestra

orchestra=2*Jazz

O+J+B=108
O+(O/2)+3O=108
4.5O=108
O=24

… as I write this now I see that it was asking for the band members… ■■■, I didn’t multiply by three.

I really don’t remember that…was it experimental?

@sakuraino: I’m pretty sure it was 16/3…??

Two overlapping triangles? Nope, didn’t see that one either.

Argh, so mad about the last grid-in. Stupid mistakes always due me in, LOL @ karma.

Anyone know what a -1 omit and a -2 student grid-in would run me?

The overlapping triangles was experimental??

Wait, did you guys have a question about stitches?

No stitches.

The overlapping triangle question was experimental.
