January 2010 Math thread

why would it be 42?

Remainder 0?

I think that area was 135. How can it be 41? The problem stated that the triangle is isosceles so the answer MUST be an even number. 40 does not work because the two sides do not add up to be greater than the third.

why 42 not 41???

eg 2333 For the lumber problem? I have it as:

6/8 * 3 * y
simplifies to 9/4y

Did anyone get 24 students in the band?

Have we figured out which math section was experimental, yet?

no… definitely got a higher number for students in the band…

72 students in band. 3x less in orchestra = 24. half orch in choir= 12
72+ 24 +12= 108.
72 is answer

72 members in the band

Which was experimental? Was the routes question in the experimental? I hope so. :/

No. I only had three Math sections, and I had the route question.

choice I was -1 < xy < 0
yeah I chose I only as well.

I’m gonna post this a third time to see if anyone remembers this question since I’m really curious about it:

For the question about the square root of x^2(x-4) = 0 with the roman numerals, what was the answer? I put III only.

Does anyone who didn’t have an experimental math section remember a question if x = 2.8 * 10^3 what does 5x equal? Trying to figure out the experimental section

chibistar, I didn’t have that question… did you have 4 math sections?

does everyone have the same # experimental section, but different questions? for example i think mine was section 5 definitely a math but i can’t remember the questions

I thought the SAT was gonna creme me this first time. The only thing that tripped me up was the 3 variable system. I haven’t seen one since I was 13.

didnt have that one either

I had math experimental. I think it was the one with 4 squares, with 1 being divided equally each time. The answer I got was 1/32. Some other weird questions in there like n^4, what is the value of n, and some question involving some Canadian provinces and syrup I think. I really, really hope this was experimental, or I’m screwed. It was 25 minutes, and 20 questions, and it was one of four math sections that I had.
