I thought it was time to start a general January SAT thread, since it's less than a month away! (I didn't see one, but I apologize if there is already one floating around.) Thoughts?

Isn’t the January test going to be hard?

Nobody knows, but it really shouldn’t matter. If it is harder than usual, it will have a nicer curve than usual. And if it easier than usual, it will have a harsher curve than usual.

But with that said, heres hoping that it is an easy test.

I’m sooo nervous already!!!
and ummm. yeah…I should probably turn off my computer…lol

I’m taking it also. Getting nervous as the days pass by Hopefully it’s a fair test with a fair curve.

I’m taking it. Good luck, everyone.

The January test is not harder than any other month. It would not be called standardized testing if it was. If it is, the curve will be adjusted.

I’m taking it :)

omg omg omg seriously ur taking it ommmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmg

wow dude ur taking it holy moly
nice dude ur taking it…

I’m taking it. I’m an international and it will be my first time ever taking SAT. I’m so nervous and I have not studied at all. gahhhh.

What SAT books are you guys using? I’m only starting to order books from Amazon today (i know i know). ‘Outsmarting the SAT’ by Elizabeth King’s got really good reviews. Anyone know about it?

Count me in among the test takers. I’m a junior this year, and this will be my second time taking the SAT (scored a 2120 sophomore year when I had a REALLY high fever). I know I’ll most likely do better this time round, for the simple reason that I won’t be sick (hopefully… I’ll try my best to make sure this will turn out to be true!), but right now I’m just aiming at a 2250+ haha.

What are your goals in terms of scores? :)

I don’t really care. I’m alright with maths and physics so it doesn’t matter if it’s hard or easy. If it’s hard, great! If it’s easy, good! I’m going to get the same score anyway… :P

argh im so nervous. i haven’t been doing really well on the critical reading off lately, but math and writing are fine…
i hope its an easy test that would be nice.
i think imma aim for a 2300—even though i dunno if thats likely too happen.

@ Junior who got 2120. I’m a senior urgently taking the SAT as my last time in January. How do you score high on the math section? What materials did you apply to your studying? (I really need to know cause everyone else is getting 650+ and I’m not). Since although Math is my strong points.

Most ambitiously and optimistically (perhaps quixotically :)), I’m aiming for a 2400. I’ll be happy with anything 2350+, though. Lower than 2300 would be a major disappointment.

@ HopefulEagle86: Haha, I’m really not the right person to ask if you’re specifically asking about math. I had a 700 on that section, and I most recently ordered the Gruber’s SAT book from Amazon to help me with it. You should order it too! :D

Thanks, I might look into that.

I’m taking it in January. I’m not nervous at all. What I get will have no bearing on my admission chances at 80% of the schools I’m applying to (and 100% of the ones that I actually care about). I’m just going to take it easy and see what happens.

I’m realistically hoping for a 2300+. 2350 wouldn’t be a surprise. I honestly wouldn’t be super, super surprised if I got a 2400 either. If I didn’t make stupid errors I would have got a 2350 last time (got 2270).

But like I said I don’t really care all too much, it barely matters for me at this point.

I liked the January SAT Got a 2390 on it after getting a 2160 on the Dec SAT. Of course, that’s probably in large part due to luck and copious amounts of studying, but still. Good luck to everyone!

@ fuzzyfirebunny: That post just made me feel so much more relieved somehow, even if it happened in January 2009 and not 2010. Thanks; I really needed that. The blue book has become my best friend this Christmas vacation…

PS - Congrats on an excellent score!
