My first time taking it in high school
I wanted a 2200+, so I’m happy.
I considered retaking because I kind of want a 2280, but I think I’m just going to focus on subject tests instead.

CR: 640 M: 580 W: 710
I’m only in seventh grade, but… Ah well. I can improve over time.

CR:600 M:760 W:710
I am depressed about my Math because I thought I could get a 800… And maybe next time I will work on my CR harder and tried to get a 700!

I’m Black and I’m hoping to get

CR >720
M = 800
W > 740

I take it in march and I’m studying really hard any suggestions…my biggest problems arise from my Critical Reading and 1-3 careless errors in the Math…Writing I just need to finish my essay well.

Newton: does it matter if you are black? Just saying. I hate how these forums profile by race.

Math: 700
Reading: 610 -_________________-
Writing: 800 (12 on essay)

Should I retake?

My daughter took the test is January and we got her score report today online. A couple things surprised me. She only missed two difficult math questions and received a score of 740 - meaning 30 points off for each question she missed. (I know the level of difficulty doesn’t matter in scoring.) In CR, she missed 8 questions and recieved a 690 - meaning less than 14 points for each question missed. I know it’s based on a curve of how everyone did but the math score deduction was surprising. I called collegeboard.com and asked for the chart that provides scoring based on the number of questions answered correctly but they said they don’t publish that information. (That chart is available for the PSAT.) Would others be willing to post their scores with the number of questions missed? Of course, you talented students that received a 2400 don’t need to post : )

Thanks.

-3/1 omit = 700 M
-4/0 omit = 760 CR
-1/0 omit/11 essay = 800 W

The writing curve was easy/normal.

The CR curve (seeing as this was apparently a hard CR test) was a bit on the easy side, seeing as how I got 4 wrong which is -4, plus penalty = -5 and I got 760. Math, I hit an unlucky spot because I missed 3, penalty rounds that up to -1 + -3 omit = -4 = 700 M.

Easy M, Easy W, Average-Difficult CR

It appears there must have been a large group of students who answered all questions correctly in math, lowering the scores for those that didn’t. Oh well.

Curve is predetermined; student performance does not matter.

I’ve never heard before that the curve is pre-determined. I thought both the SAT and ACT were based on how the population of students taking the same test scored. Do you mind me asking where you found this out? What doesn’t make sense then is why the math scoring is so much more rigorous than CR & W.

I’m just hoping to understand the scoring process better so any clarification would be appreciated. Thanks.

5 wrong in math, no omissions = 700. 2 incorrect in CR, no omissions = 800. I must say, this seems wrong to me!

^There’s nothing wrong with that; Math is a more “solid” subject and there is always a definite answer, while CR is a bit more subjective (though CB does a good job keeping everything objective, but still).
