january 2012 - SAT Intl

Hey guys,
It is too bad to keep scrolling up and down a previous thread (december 2009) to eventually find nothing about international math.. I hope we can consolidate a list of answers for the math of this test
I remember the last math question of the grid-ins was .3(63+x)=x, x= 27
-2 for the triangle question.
1/3 for the probability that asked for 2 numbers that would add up to 10
215 for the function question that asked for something like profit
the y-intercept didnt change for the question that asked about the horizontal translation.

hi, im on ur facebook group lol, do you remember anymore math questions?

there was this probability question about lunch meals (4 kinds of meat+ 5 kinds of veg). I believe the answer was 40.

Math wasn’t that easy for this test I think. At least compared to the oct 2011 test. But there were a few tricky questions I half guessed…

Yup it was 40 and I thought math was really easy. I just got one wrong on p^2-2pm+m2+1/(m^2) because I was stupid enough not to try 10, 10. Lame…

based on the results from the Dec 2009 test, the Math curve was lenient.

54 800
53 790
52 770
51 750
50 740
49 730
48 700

I left that question out…aahhhh! time caught me on that one and I didn’t want to guess blindly so i just left it…sad thing is i figured out the answer when i moved to the next section

Yea I got 40 as well.

It was 40. Those curves actually look nice.

because I left 2 questions out :(, I’m looking at anything from 740 to 770 because I usual get 2-4 wrong. Keeping my fingers crossed for the 770 lol

Was the math section same for Dec '09 as well… I thought it was only Critical reading and writing.

nope everything was the same. When CB re-uses a test they tend to use the entire test. So, if you can determine how many questions you got wrong then you can determine your score because the curve would be the same.

Wait… College Board reuses tests? What is this sorcery?

They reuse us tests for international students. The most recent test was administered in december 2009. I don’t think it’s the same math section though.

College Board doesn’t want to pay ETS to write two new tests, I guess.

When they used March 2009 test for international December 2011 test, I should have read through all 2009 tests discussion in this site.
This is the last SAT in my lifetime though.

Meat and vegetables question was a simple combination and permutation problem:
4 x 5C2 = 40

And some about the 20 minute math section questions:

One is about some x+y=7 and x<=2y (something like that)
The answer is x<y?
And the parabola question, is the answer 20?
I got the first one by the method of enumeration (listed out all contingencies)
And the second one by differentiation and sum of roots (I knew later that answers can be instantly reached by the symmetrical property of parabola)

There was this roman numeral divisibility question about p and p+3. Someone said that the answer was (e) I,II,III .-> p(p+3) is divisible by 2,3,and 9?
Does anyone remember what the actual question was?

Something like if p is divisible by 3, then p+3 must be divisible by I. 2 II. 3 III. Z i think the answer was b(II only)

There are divisible by all 2,3,9
p is a multiple of 3, let p=3k
p(p+3)=3k(3k+3)=9k(k+1)
k(k+1) is a multiple of 2 (even multiplies odd equals even)
9k(k+1) is a multiple of both 3 and 9

@warsovereign I forgot that p(p+1) is a multiple of 2, just care of 3 and 9… Is the curve so generous? I hope not harsh as november and december.

I put E. Honestly, I couldn’t be arsed to do all the algebra. I just picked two values that met the requirements, multiplied them, then divided them by the three given values. They all worked: put E (I, II and III) as the answer, without a second thought.
