So for those of you who took the Jan 26 2013 SAT 1 Test..
WHY WAS THE CURVE SO HARSH?!?!
-2 = 770
-3 = 730
look at these past curves
http://www.erikthered.com/tutor/SAT-Released-Test-Curves.pdf
-2 = 800
-3 (plus 1/4 deduction) = 770
I dont remember that test being extremely easy..

How do you read this chart? My son took the SAT in January and scored 60-80 points lower on Critical reading than he realistically expected.

I actually did find the critical reading section to be easier than in practice tests I have taken. I agree though, the curve was ridiculous. I got -2 =770 but if I had lost 40 points because of getting one more question wrong, I would be very frustrated.

Because the questions were easier than in the past, so an appropriate adjustment had to be made?

^That would be me. I got 3 questions wrong, so 730 :(

I usually miss 8-10 questions in CR but this time I missed 3, putting me at a 730. I guess that’s pretty good evidence personally that this test’s CR was easier

I don’t know, man. From your chart, it looks like this was the first time that you couldn’t get an 800 by getting -1. (I got -1. Damn. So close.)

Perhaps it was easier than some other tests. Nonetheless, it was not the easiest CR test ever made.

The curve totally destroyed my sat score (and self esteem…) … kind of hoping for some deep **** on march sat so there’s a munificent curve but thatd be torture during the actual test.

Hmm… I’m surprised that the curve was this harsh for CR. I’ve gotten -3/-4 on the previous 2 tests that I’ve taken for around a 750 each time. I thought that this one was slightly easier, but I was still unsure of about 2-3 questions, same as the other 2 tests. Somehow I managed to get -0 on this one, must have made some good guesses.

Pretty crazy curve…

My son did not think it was easy. He had been scoring 700 -740 on practice tests for two months and then - wham! - 600 critical reading on the actual January test. He is re-taking in March but is now very worried about his vocabulary.

i always get 3-4 wrong on critical reading, and this test was no exception. i got 3 wrong. but was not expecting a 730…

@Rowmom in my experience, practice tests, specifically the ones in collegeboard’s blue book, are noticeably easier than the actual test. At least for me, this has been especially true for critical reading.

Vocabulary is a must if you want to score well on CR. This most recent test I didn’t know one word, execrable, but managed to get the question right because I knew that all of the other answers were wrong.

really… then I guess I missed 4 or something cuz I gotta 710. WRITING curve was HaRSH!!! - 2 = 780, -3 = 750(ME)

critical reading curve harsher than writing curve… that’s unheard of.
hmm @Dream4Life what did you get on ur essay?

The questions were not easier than the previous two tests I have taken. I felt that the critical reading was harder. Who gets to make these subjective assessments?

Ditto…I came out of the test thinking the CR was on the harder side…
Then again, my judgement may have been affected since I had experimental CR, and it might have been just that section that was hard.
