January 2020

Has anyone been accepted to January 2020? I was denied admission, appealed, and then accepted to start in the Spring. Am wondering if anyone else is in the same boat or knows students who have done this.

My daughter is in the exact same situation. We haven’t received much information from school on this option yet. She is seriously considering but is a little worried about how housing/roommates works and if she will be missing out by not being there in the fall.

I’m currently a student at Clemson and was accepted for January 2019, so I just started here this semester. I was originally waitlisted and then offered deferred acceptance. Housing was super simple, near Thanksgiving a housing representative reached out to me and I was able to discuss back and forth with her about the housing options available to me, however, I didn’t have a say in who I got as a roommate. I am super happy to be here, but it was difficult missing out in the fall. Most of the students on campus have already joined clubs or greek life and already have their friends. Also, many organizations aren’t open or advertising to new members in the Spring. Regardless of all that I am having a great time here and if Clemson is a top choice while looking at schools I think the Spring deferment is a great option. I hope this helped at least a little and I’d be happy to answer any questions if you need help!

Thank you for the info- so glad to hear everything worked out and you are happy. That is encouraging to hear. It definitely is my daughter’s top choice so we will most likely be accepting. Were you provided housing in a freshmen dorm so you at least got to meet other freshmen? Did you have multiple dorms to pick from? Were there any social media sites you joined that you were able to meet other freshmen January admits? Or anything the school did to connect you with those kids? Do you know if there was an orientation to attend before the spring semester? Sorry- a lot of questions!

For housing, you get to request a dorm by giving a list of your top choices. Definitely go on the Clemson housing website and look through all of the options. I personally requested to be with another Freshman so I’m sure you could do the same thing. Normally there is a Facebook page for each class at Clemson, for example, mine is “Clemson University Class of 2022”. It’s used for some odd things like selling sporting tickets and textbooks but I posted a little blurb with a picture of myself explaining that I was starting in the Spring and was looking for people in the same situation. Orientation is a little stressful because it is a few days before the Spring Semester starts. My move in day was January 6th, Orientation was the 7th, and classes started on the 9th. At orientation, she will get to pick her classes and meet with an advisor for her major. I’m happy to answer any more questions you might have, I wish I had more information before I started here, and my Instagram is lexigreulich if your daughter wants to get in touch!

Thanks again for the great information and providing your contact information. I will pass along to her so she can reach out directly if she has more questions. Her name is Chelsea if you see anything from her.

My Daughter was offered the Jan’20 start and very excited to go. I’m wondering how financial aid works and if she takes some classes at a local college here is there any problems transferring credits?

Thanks!

.

I too was offered admissions to Clemson in January 2020. I am not sure how financial aid works, but I do know how to see of your credits will transfer. Just go to the Transfer Course Equivalency List on the Clemson website and you will be able to see what courses at other institutions will transfer. I look forward to seeing your daughter there on January!

So glad to see there are some other kids taking the spring 2020 offer. I was starting to think my daughter was the only one! If your kids want to connect, let me know and I’ll provide my daughter’s Instagram- anything to make the process a little less stressful starting mid yr.

My son was waitlisted and then offered deferred admission for January 2020. He is currently at another university but is very excited about Clemson. I am wondering if there is an orientation for the January students?

Hello Alinecaste,
Based on comments above, I checked the site and it looks like Monday January 6th. My son is in the same boat, but has a high school friend who is already at the school and will room with him. Good luck to everyone!
