January 21st?

Did anyone else get a letter from Big Green saying they'd extend the application deadline to January 21st?

I'm wondering if it's a applicant-wide thing or specific to me.
(I already applied, so no big).

I received a letter, too. I accidentlly threw it away. Does anyone know if the deadline has been extention? I couldn’t find anything about it on their website?

:)

Yes, the letter said the deadline was extended for me to January 21, 2010

Haha sorry I can see how that was misinterpreted. That was a link to another thread that has discussed this issue and came to something of a conclusion with the title “Extended Deadline?”

Yes! I got this letter too but my mom accidentally threw it away so I wasn’t sure …

In 2008 Swarthmore sent a similar letter to URMs. I find it offensive on behalf of the URM students who met the deadline, not to mention everyone else.

The time to appeal to candidates in an effort to broaden your applicant base is before the deadline, IMHO. (What about poor, blue collar, or extremely rural white kids from disadvantaged backgrounds, just to name a few? How many of THEM consider applying to D or any other elite private school?) But apparently this is now an accepted technique. Perhaps a function of the change in admissions administration at D.

If I had been stressing about time/deadlines I suppose it would have been relieving.
It’d be better if they did it for everyone that lives far away, though.

I do think, however, that plenty of smart blue-collar kids apply to the Ivies/elite schools due to the excellent financial aid, as opposed to places like BU or NYU without the under $60,000 policy. That’s what I’ve tended to observe at my school, which is pretty rural and has a lot of first generation college students.

So I am a URM? I’m Guyanese, btw but I have put Indian on all my apps even though I’m not Indian and then put Guyana where it says Indian-Other…

I’m not applying to Dartmouth so maybe this shouldn’t be here, but any help is appreciated!

I got the extended deadline letter also. I was away over holidays and just got back. I had been thinking of applying and had my SATs sent in a few months ago. Im half east Indian/ half caucasion.I didn’t think that’s really a URM, maybe its because Im bi-racial? I like Dartmouth but figured its hard to get into and in the cold.

Yes, probably, because I’m not a URM but I have the whole multiethnic thing going on.
I actually want to get up into the cold!

wait so is the deadline only extended for people who got the letter?

i haven’t applied yet, but once i heard the deadline was extended i am considering applying. i’m just confused, because i can’t find anything about an extended deadline except on CC

Yes the deadline extension is only sent to certain individuals

Swat extended its deadline this year too.

I don’t really see how people could need an extended deadline for Dartmouth. Most people have more than one school on the Common App, so it’s not like they need any time to write an essay, and Dartmouth’s supplement takes under 5 minutes.
