January 23 SAT Discussion Thread

Discuss the questions on the SAT here.

Can someone confirm these answers?

Critical Reading - the question asked what would be one of the "reasons" for staying on the highway --- I said "inexpensive motels"

Writing - "had swam" was wrong.

Last section question 7 ----the question was somethign like "cancer patients can regenerate blah blah blah". I chose the second choice. Was "if any" right or wrong?

Math - there was a question with length on a segment PQRS. I got that X =2, but forgot the answer to the question.

I do not believe inexpensive motels is right. If you read further along, the dad chose that backwards route because he wanted to avoid all pays, and was gonna pick a hitchhikers to AVOID sleeping in a motel.

The correct answer was Fastest Route.

I’m actually pretty sure the answer is “inexpensive motels” cause in the list, all of the reasons were related to spending less money. The only answer choice with a reason involving money was “inexpensive motels”

“Inexpensive motels” was the right answer, I think. You’re looking too much into the small details, gasbait; the father listed out only economic reasons.
I agree that “had swam” was wrong.
I don’t remember a question for the cancer patients one! Crap.
For PQRS, all I remember was that PQ=6, QX=4, XR=2, and RS=6, or something like that. So XS=8

gasbait: yes I remember seeing that too. I was confused though, because I thought that taking the highway would take longer than the turnpike. But that is probably inferring too off from the text.

I may be wrong. The three reasons the dad listed were" price shopping, cheaper food, and something else" However, the 3 reasons were also all financial reasons. So I’m not sure…

Its inexpensive motels and 8

One of the math problems had a cube with a triangle formed by the diagonals of three of the cube’s faces. It asked for one of the angles. Does anyone remember what they put for that? I picked 90 degrees, but I’m not sure if that’s stupid, considering the angles of a triangle should add up to 180.

60 on that one… equilateral baby…

question of my own…

for the writer one was it arrogant or differential (or whatever it was)

hey guys, please post these questions under “SAT preparation” . we can consolidate everything thay way.

I got inexpensive motels and I got the segment one = 8. I got mostly everything people are agreeing on here…

I also got inexpensive motels and 8
Also, does anyone remember if the last grammar question (#14) on section 10 was no error?

Btw, did these math sections seem harder in general than previous years?

can someone explain what the answer was for
6x + 3 >= n
solve for x
i got (n-3)/6 but i couldnt find that answer

I believe that your answer was right. Just solve the given inequality for X. Graph that. Then graph all of your answer choices. (Remember to graph them as inequalities). Whichever one falls within the given is your answer

I thought that you were absolutely not supposed to discuss the questions on the test until you receive your scores?

I thought that it was scenic views… only because the father said that he liked the highway because of the scenes, and that the turnpike was just like concrete

Two problems with that:

1.) The father had already talked about wanting to see as he was driving, and the narrator was listing additional reasons.

2.) The three things that were listed all had to do with saving money.

I did get inexpensive motels as my answer aswell, as all reasons the father listed were economical.

but for the “had swam” i put had swam was incorrect aswell… but read over a few times and changed my answer to “no error”

the question was something like:

something something helped a group of whales that had been trapped after they had swam into the ocean to feed.

“had swam” sounds incorrect… but i feel as though it is proper grammar?

“had swum” is correct.

dang. i knew better than to second guess my answers -__-
