january program?

wait, am I right about that? Do we live in the Village or are we on the South 40?

P.S. I JUST ORDERED MY SWEATSHIRT AND MY SWEATPANTS! I am so excitteeedddddddddd!

I just made the Facebook group: [Wash U January Program 2014! | Facebook](<a href=“Facebook Public Group | Facebook”>Facebook Public Group | Facebook)

If for some crazy reason the link doesn’t work the name of the groups is Wash U January Program 2014!

Can a transfer student come in mid-year? Are they part of the January program?

^^ Yes, WashU takes in transfer students in Spring, but the number is rather small (around 30-40). No, they are not part of the January program… cos transfer students apply in Fall for Spring admission, whereas JProg students applied for Fall admission but are only allowed to enter in Spring.

One of my best friends was a Jprog and I know a handful.

Every single one I knew said they resented it at first, but looking back on it, they completely appreciate it now and are glad they were jprogs.

Right now I am on the WL but I have 37 hours of university credit (9 hrs AP). I was thinking of asking to switch to evaluation as a transfer student and see if I could some in the spring that way…fall would be nice but don’t know if that would be possible. I will talk to admissions about this. I would hate to lose all those credits…

I read somewhere that we live in the Village… I just joined the group, too!

Normally there is an “official” jprog group made by the peer advisers/current progs. But either way  if u have questions feel free to ask me. And yes. You live in the village: it rocks!

Oh okay, well then I guess the group I made will be temporary until they make theirs. Is living in the VIllage good? I know it is nicer, but is it hard to socialize being apart from the South 40? Also, are we not apart of the Residential Olympics? And what running for a position on the SU? Is that not possible as a Jprog? SO many questions!!! Sorry!

@robbinm,
I think that for the 2nd semester of freshman year, you will be living in the Village with the other JProgs. However, if you do the optional Fall program (where you come to campus a few times during the fall for several days each time), you are placed with Freshman on the South 40 who volunteered to host JProgs when they visit. The JProgs I know who did the Fall program loved it because it was more ties to Wash U, you’re with Freshman on the 40 for a lot of the time, and you get to take more classes (and social activities).

You cannot run for the Freshman Class Council elections (because those occur very early on in the fall semester), but you can run for any other position that begins the Fall of your sophomore year… those elections are held each March/April. So, you can run for Senate, Treasury, Sophomore Class Council, ArtSci Council, Student Union Executive board, etc. There are also lots of SU committees you can just join during the year and don’t require an election.

Hope you come to Wash U! At the end of the day, if you think about it, you are at Wash U for 87.5% of your college career (7 out of 8 semesters). And, if you spend the summer on campus for FSAP and do the Fall Program for january students, that percentage increases a little bit more. And, yet, you aren’t getting anything less than 100% of a Wash U education and experience :)

To the current jprogs, does anyone do both the fall and summer programs? My admission letter said my acceptance was contingent on me attending the summer program, but I was hoping to attend the fall program so I could meet more freshmen.

It really said you had to do FSAP? That’s new. There were a couple that did both, but the FProg doesn’t really end up introducing you to many regular freshmen actually… its a lot of Jprog bonding.

thanjs vball!

So which is better for a Jprog to do? Or do you recommend both? Masra, what was your experience like? Also, is living away from the 40 as hard as it seems for the second semester freshmen year?

Was anyone admitted to January program who intends to go to Sam Fox (art school at Wash U)? My son was, but there is nothing in what they sent that mentions the art school. I wonder how he could catch up if everyone else starts Foundation in the Fall.

Hey, I’m also planning on attending Sam Fox as a JProg. It said to contact our advisor Georgia Binnington for questions about credit. She’s the dean of students at Sam Fox and she’s also extremely nice. I haven’t contacted her yet, but let me know if you hear anything.

Hey I’m also planning to attend Sam Fox as a JProg. I will definitely contact her. Thanks! What medium do you guys use?

this is a question for any former jprog or student who did the FSAP program in the summer. it seems like a great option but i have two questions. 1. what is the work load like? i’m used to a rigorous curriculum but i’m just curious how many hours a day on average you studied throughout this program. 2. how strict is it? by this i mean, are we allowed to go off campus/to the loop/st. louis on our own/with friends? can we be in other dorms at any hour? etc? i know that people can do any of this at washu but i thought that maybe since its a program, thing had to be more strict. i would really appreciate any input. thanks!!

I am a parent of a current freshman at Wash U. He was accepted ED and decided to attend FSAP last summer. A large number of students in FSAP were from from Jprog. He found the students to be exceptional and many became some of his closest friends this year. The Jprog students visited in the fall and he plans on rooming with several during his sophmore year. I think that you should look at the Jprog as a very positive thing. You were accepted to WUSTL, plain and simple and will graduate with your class. Congratulations!

Has everyone here called the school? If so, what did you ask and what did they tell you? Trying to gather data haha!

Also, join!
