January SAT 2009 General Discussion

How did everyone do? Do you think it was easier or harder than previous tests?

Thought it's my first time taking the test, i found the vocab to be slightly more difficult than I had anticipated. The math was easy, so was the writing. The essay was pretty "normal." I think a 2300 + is possible.

I thought writing was easy but math, I think I only made one problem. I found reading to be slightly difficult. I didn't realize I had the nomad section until there was about 8 minutes left... Had to rush for that. I even relaxed for 5 minutes because I thought the first section had few questions, which was retarded.

How many mistakes did you think you made on the January SAT?
Writing mc: 0 left out; probably 2 silly mistakes
CR: 0 left out; 14 mistakes total (overestimating here)
Math: 0 left out; 1 mistake fo sho (the last problem in in the 20 min sections)

I left about 3 math ones out. I know I greatly screwed up on parts of it, and on other parts I breezed through. Omg, I left out the last math question, too!

Writing MC was easy! I agree, probably 2 silly mistakes. essay=FAILFAILFAIL i started too late, lol. Seriously, 25 min is not enough to write an essay of any respectable quality.

I suck at critical reading so I probably interpreted the readings incorrectly. But if I actually did know what I was doing I probably made around 5 mistakes as opposed to 15.

It was a lot better than the Dec. SAT. I have mixed feelings about the test. While I was taking it I felt better about it in some sections but not others. Oh well, we'll see. Good luck!

good luck to everybody.. i REALLY hope i won't have to take it again haha

I got 1 wrong in math,,,,
I did ok in essay (10) maybe. I probably missed none, one, or two...
REading, I know I got 3 wrong, 2 blanks. But possibly got more wrong.

Wat would I get? please help me...

-1 in Math, as long as that's the only one, is most likely 780. -2 in Writing with a 10 essay is around a 760. -5 or -6 in Critical Reading is probably around 740.

I got these figures from my SAT instructor, who's taken the SAT 3 times a year for who knows how long, so it should be pretty legit. If your predictions are correct, good job!

Does anyone know the answer to the silly math question about the 6-sided dice?

circle.

I think a high 2300 is a possibility.

This was my first time taking, so I can't really compare, but I thought the vocab was so easy in comparison to the practice tests I've done...the other stuff was about what I expected, I guess. Though my practice essays were wayyyy better....

I agree, it was overall pretty good, but I made mistakes on math.
I did hear though, that math did get harder this month. Does anyone agree? I should hope there'd be a slightly better curve...

What exactly does the experimental section do to our scores?

nothing

10 char

The answer to the dice one is a circle. The math I thought was a little harder but do-able.

One of the reading sections with the realistic painting was easy but the other two I have uneasy feelings about. First off, my proctor told us we had 5 min left instead of 10min left so it totally screwed me over (later corrected her mistake). I also spent too much time on the 2 passage reading section w/ the native ppl who use their instincts and intuition rather than specific scientific facts.

I think my chances for hitting a 700 in CR is down the drain ;-; The vocab was a little hard for me. Writing: MC = easy side, essay = bad. All in all, if I get above 650CR,800M,650W,T=2100, I'll be one happy camper.

The CR this time was bs. Rock and roll, paintings, scientists, baju (navigation) all had at least one tricky question.

BTW which one was the nomad one? Baju hollistic people vs scientists?

for your -1 in math, expect anything from a 750 (yes it CAN get this low) to a 780. nothing higher than a 780.

good job though, if your predictions are correct

No, I don't think -1 is ever 750 except on the PSAT, when it's 75. (same thing)
-1 is rarely ever 800 or 790 unless the test makers thought the math was pretty difficult. It's usually 780, maybe 770.

At any rate, it's a harsh curve.

I guess so. These passages are not the my piece of cake, because I simply suck at reading articles about literature or arts. Too bad they don't have a passage discussing politics. (I've never ever missed a single question on a political passage)

I think I'll get a 2100. CR 600 Maths 750 WR 750
