January SATs?

My SAT I math sucks, at least for MIT: I got 650, twice. Although my 750 verbal kinda makes up for that, I'm thinking of retaking in January. Some schools don't accept it, some do, but for MIT, this is what they say for RD:

"January tests may be accepted on a case-by-case basis"

wtf

Maybe they'll only consider if you had no other available date, or if you really screwed up, or maybe if you improve a lot, or something? Aren't all apps are case-by-case already? I'm just wondering if they could take my Jan. scores, which hopefully should be great, and that would make me feel better about applying to MIT.

Has anyone here applied in previous years and used Jan. scores?

I am not sure about your case.

I just had my interview today. During that, I was told that I should consider retaking the SAT 1.

My interviewer already told me that someone else he also interviewed will be completing the SATIIs during January cause that person had jumped on the MIT bandwagon a bit late. However, I am an international student so they might be a bit more forgiving of internationals trying to cope with a US system rather than with US students.

I guess they are only willing for those that have not had ample opportunity to take the SATs due to extraordinary circumstances; eg deaths in family, sudden educational hardships, extreme weather etc.

You should probably contact the admissions office as soon as possible to explore your options.

I also take January SATs and TOEFL, so I hope for consideration....
