January SSAT

I want to take the SSAT in January because I only get one chance and I need an amazing score and I wanted as much time as possible to study, will I be penalized if the scores get to the schools like a week late?

The late Jan SSAT is acceptable but not preferred for some schools. I talked with SSAT Rep last year and they do try and process the grades asap because they know schools are waiting for them so it may not be a full week. You might want to take the test earlier and elect not to send scores to schools. If you do well you can go online and select schools to send them to. Even if you don’t get the scores you were hoping for it will help you identify areas need to work on and get a feel for the timing of the exam. Best of luck

I agree with telsanne. Better to take a first pass at the test in December.
What happens if you have only one January test date and you are sick that day?

i have the same problem!! except mines even later- the february test. I’m going to rip my hair out haha. I have a huge swim meet on EVERY SINGLE TEST DATE until the feb test and seriously i want to cry, I know that it will decrease my chance because they obviously want all the grades by January. I mean I’m pretty sure that’s true right…?

@swimmer15: I would advise you to try to find an Educational Consultant who could administer the “flex test” version of the SSAT at an earlier date.

And speaking frankly, I question your commitment to going to boarding school if you feel that cannot skip a single meet to take a test that is a key component of your application. While I admire your commitment to your team, it’s about priorities.

OP: One or two months is plenty of time to study for the SSAT. I didn’t study and I got 70% on it (stupid math section) so I’m sure you’ll do fine if you take it in November or December.

Sevendad- we called one of the schools I am applying to and they advised that also, but thank you for your advise. On the other hand, I don’t appreciate you saying that you don’t think im serious about boarding school because I don’t want to miss a meet. I’m at a competitive level and every meet counts, not to mention my coach would not be very happy about it. If i don’t get accepted I don’t want to jeopardize my entire season. I don’t think its right of you to say that

@swimmer15: I do not have any kids involved with the competitive sports circuit(s), so I do not quite understand the pressures you may feel.

However, I will try to flip this around so you can see where I am coming from. Let’s say you did paint yourself into a corner and only take the Feb SSAT. And let’s say you perform poorly on that test. (I hope neither happens, btw.)

How is your coach going to feel about that? And your parents? Will they be happy that you showed up throughout the season and helped the team and perhaps set some personal bests/state records?

But more importantly, how are YOU going to feel if it comes to that?

That’s where I am coming from when I speak about priorities.

Furthermore, don’t people on your team ever miss meets because of an illness or perhaps a family event like a wedding/funeral?

I apologize if I offended you. I hope you are able to make arrangements to take the test with a ed. consultant. Best of luck.
