Japanese SAT II ¬_¬

<p>I know I was silly for doing this, but I took the Japanese SAT II even though I'm not a native speaker. Somewhere on Harvard's website it said, "
Foreign Language
All undergraduates must attain proficiency in the study of a foreign language. Some have done so before arriving and have demonstrated their competence in a language other than English by means of a standardized placement test. Scores of 600 or above on the College Board SAT II (560 or above on tests taken before May 1995), a 5 on an Advanced Placement language exam, or a score designated as passing in one of Harvard's placement tests administered during Opening Days will meet the language requirement."
So I thought it was saying 600 is a good score...will getting between 600 and 700 look bad for admission though?...anyone?</p>

<p>Daijoubu da. Shinpai sugite wa ikemasen.</p>

<p>;)</p>

<p>(Konban wa!)</p>

<p>One of my white friends got a 580 or 590* on the Chinese SAT II... all his interviewers were at the very least amused. It made him stand out. And they made sure to mention it was because he was white. "I always see so many Chinese people take that test and wonder 'what's the point?'" or "It's very rare that someone whose not Chinese takes that test."</p>

<p>So is it good/bad? Not quite sure. It made him stand out. His other scores weren't bad (low 700s to 800), so it really didn't hurt. I don't know if he applied to MIT, but he applied to Princeton ED, and was accepted.</p>

<p>And if you take other SAT IIs in addition to that one, MIT will only look at the ones that make you look best, so it really can't hurt you there.</p>

<p>*he guessed his way through the whole thing. Never took one Chinese class, read one Chinese word, attempted to teach himself any Chinese. Picked the answers that sounded the prettiest.</p>

<p>So what did we learn from this?
a) MIT is so awesome in that at the very least, an additional not-so-good score won't hurt you.
b) Don't use Harvard's standards for what's good and what's not
c) Prettier words are better than non-pretty words.</p>

<p>thanks guys. and yeah, I kno MIT is awesome :P
I think I'll take Lit this Saturday instead of the SAT1..I think 710 on math is my limit or something haha</p>
