Hey, Jas0n, I just got my appeal granted to UCI...YES! Do i submit the SIR to UCI first, or cancel my one to UCSB first?

karrotz:

I don't think it matters. Go ahead and submit one for UCI and then get that UCSB one cancelled.

Thank you! :D

How much tension is there between Jews and Muslims on campus? Is it apparent or does this kind of conflict go unnoticed by most students? Because I've heard things about UCI being kind of focal point for college anti-Zionist activity and I'm Jewish and will be attending in the fall, so it's kind of important for me to know if I'm going to be constantly hassled or just occassionally bothered.

theres a very large difference between anti semitism and anti zionism

dont feel your religion is threatened because of someones political affiliation which really has nothing to do with religion

Do I need to take the placement tests for chemistry and math since I am going to be a bio major next year? I have to take the writing one, but I wasn't sure if I needed to take the other placement tests.

omg its a mini jason!

I believe you do need to take both. AP chem and calc gets you out of taking the placements though if you get 4-5 i think. CHP gets you out of taking the chem placement.

JDWiseW:

To be honest I've never heard about a tension between the two on campus. There will be tension only if a certain event causes it. I have this nice Jewish guy in my dorm that always goes out with his friends and Jewish frat. He doesn't seem to have an problems...but I don't know him well to be sure of that.

jason123:

Read above.

JDWiseW- there is actually significant tension between them on campus. I wouldn't say you would be constantly hassled about it, but you will probably experience some uncomfortable moments from time to time.

Hey Jason. Do I have to take the precalculus placement test to get into math 2a? and when should I take it? because it says I don't really need Math 2A until my junior year. I'm not sure which other placement test(s) I should sign up for. What do you think? oh and I'm a computer science major.

(I was exempted from the analytical writing test)

Mysticorion:

I don't think there are any other placement tests you need. If you do not plan on taking math yet, you don't have to take the placement test. However, I'd recommend it now before your math gets really fuzzy.

edit: nvm I found it. For people living in norcal:
"Testing for UCI Students on the UC Berkeley campus

The Academic Testing Center administers selected placement tests once a year on the Berkeley campus for the benefit of UCI students who reside in Northern California. This date is usually the second or third Saturday in June each year.

Incoming freshmen with a Northern California address will automatically be mailed a letter detailing this test date and how to sign up for it. This letter typically accompanies the packet of testing, orientation, and advising materials mailed to incoming students in May of each year.

The test date for Fall 2007 placement testing will be announced later this year. More information will be mailed to northern California students in May 2007.

For information about directions to, visiting and parking at the UC Berkeley campus, click here. (www.berkeley.edu/visitors)"

oh and Jason, is it hard to go directly into Math 2A? How hard is the precal placement test? I took calc and stats my junior year, no math this year, so I probably forgot a lot of it already =(

Mysticorion:

The placement test for math should be really easy since very few do not pass. However, I can't say for sure because I didn't need to take the math placement test. If you look on the website and look under the section that describes what the test will cover, then you will get a complete breakdown of what you need to study. Everything on that list will be covered and nothing else.

I got an e-mail about taking a Writing Test this Saturday. However, if I am taking AP English and IB English tests, and I know I will pass them with flying colors, do I need to take the placement test, or can I just send in my scores for either the AP or IB test after I take them (in the summer)?

you can send in your AP english score of 3 or higher.

i think if you have not already passed the ap test or u havn't taken it already, they ask you to take the placement test. not sure tho

Saying that youw ill pass them with flying colors is a bit skeptical to me. However, if you want to take the risk, you can just not take the writing placement test. You need to notify UCI when you find out if you passed your AP/IB test or not to give you special clearance to take Writing39B or Humanities Core.

hi jason:

I am an international student, and thus do not have a social security number. I had problems signing up for placement tests since the online registration required me to provide a social security number. That is why i had to fax the form and i bet i will put at the end of the list (probably not gonna get the date of my choice)

My concern now is summer orientation. When you sign up for summer orientation program, do you need your social security number, or will the UCInetID suffice? I do not wanna be put at last again because of i dont have a social security number :S

Placement tests don't necessarily get full... You'll probably get into the placement test date.

I actually do not remember what I used to sign up for the orientation program. I cannot recall any use of my social security number upon signing up for orientation. My guess is you do not need it.

Hello, I have another question about the Summer Bridge program. Generally, how many people participate in this program and is the school empty during the summertime? >_<
