jas0n's Official UCI Q&A Thread

i'm currently majoring in business economics and according to placement tests i have to take math and writing, i believe. i scored 690 on the writing so i should be fine with the AWPE.

however, i no longer want to major in econ and i instead want to switch to either political science or criminology.

what do i need to do about this? can i just not take the math placement exam and switch majors later?

can you sign up for classes yet?

The Brian:

If you do not plan on taking math, then you do not need to take the placement exam. Does that answer your question?

forgive me for asking such a trivial question

but where do i send my final transcripts? i have to give my school an envelope + stamp with the address of the school on it, but im not sure if i am suppose to address it to a specific part of the school? and when i click on the section about high school transcripts, it doesnt give an addresss

thanks

Normally, you will turn everything into the administration office. Here's what you should entail.

UCI Admissions Office
204 Administration Building
Irvine, CA 92697-1075
Attention: Admissions Office

Double check that though. I just pulled this out of a letter I sent to UCI in the past.

hey jason

i'm in kind of a bind right now. Because of my retarded bio teacher, i got an F in my AP bio class. This was not because of any academic issues but because of disciplinary issues. (spellcheck?) Anyways, even with the F, I barely make the cutoff for the 3.0 weighted GPA. I've already informed irvine about this grade, but I'm worried since I wasn't one of those outstanding 4.0 students. (I got in with a 3.3 -_-) So my question is, do you know of any students who got their applications pulled back because of an F even if they had a 3.0 weighted?

i got some stuff in the mail today ab out the frfeshman summer start program, do they offer financial aid for that?

wf909:

I need a more complete report including all the numbers you can give me.

pol123:

The summer start program is only like 100 bucks to register because it's a program intended to help low-income students get acquainted with the college system over summer while gaining some credit.

Is it neccessary to arrive at school one hour before to find parking? What time of class will I most likely find a parking space? In the morning or evening?

sweetdream:

Freshman commuters are only allowed to park in the engineering parking structure. Because I'm not one, I cannot say much. However, the parking structure is never necessarily full to the top. If you keep going around and up the parking structure you'll find a spot within 15 minutes. The parking structure is very far from most classes too, so anticipate a 10-15 minute walk for the more far buildings.

As for time, parking is easy to find anytime before 10-11am. After that, parking spots start opening up towards 3-4pm.

hey jason, i'm afraid that you might not have read my earlier post, so I hope you'll read this one. =]

Yes, I've heard of students who've gotten revoked even if they met the 3.0 weighted requirement. I really hope you gave a full explanation and like..supplied your principle's phone number or something. Your high school teacher is seriously being an ******* about this. You might be able to make it through. If you have problems and you can show proof that your F was due to disciplinary issues, try disputing it with the office of administration or give me a message. I'll be glad to fix something unjust like this IF you are being completely honest with me.

wf909:

I actually meant SAT2s when i said numbers. However the 1st gen and low income info is very helpful. I won't figure it out until i can get some tangible numbers for SAT2s.

wf909:

You're almost a match for UCI. If you decide to apply in impacted majors, there might be a very slight reach for you. So far, you're on a good note.

i think wf909 has a good chance to get in with those EC's and circumstances.

however, if it were someone with only those grades, i'd say it would be a slight reach.

u know how ur suppose to take all the placement testing before u go to orientation .. wut happens if you dont take all ur placement testing.. can you sign up for those classes next semester? when i take analytical writing during welcome week, it will be wayyy after the orientation so how do i sign up for a writing class? or do i sign next semester?

collegeishomafan:

You technically do not need to take placement tests before orientation. It is not required. You can sign up for courses that require placement in your second quarter at UCI. If your AWPE scores come in before you registration window, then you will be able to sign up for writing class.

What's better - doing the 3 day orientation, or the 1-day one? Does the 3-day only have extra that you sleep over night for 2 nghts, and is it really that important to do?
