Jazz Guitar -What's required?

I have a friend who is curious to know whether most schools require a classical audition as well as a jazz one if you are majoring (or trying to get into) Jazz Guitar as is the case at Eastman and (I believe) Juilliard.
Could we get a list of schools and conservatories that require classical and those that don't?

I don’t think most schools require a classical audition for Jazz. Schools I’m pretty sure do NOT include New School, Peabody, Berklee and Oberlin. University of Oregon DOES. Is your friend interested in conservatories or colleges with music degrees?

My friend is interested in conservatories it sounded like, so places like Peabody, Eastman, Juilliard etc etc

S applied last year to NEC, NYU, North Texas, North Florida, Berklee, USC and UMass.
None of them required a classical audition. Almost all have prescreen requirements.

Anyone else?

I probably worded my post wrong, but just in case: Son auditioned at McGill, Northwestern, Peabody, New School and Oberlin for jazz. There was not a classical audition at any of these places. And everywhere but Peabody had a pre-screen requirement.

Eastman requires classical for jazz guitar. So does University of Denver-Lamont and Ithaca. Those places were crossed off my son’s list for that reason. He could’ve managed it, but he really wanted to keep his prescreen requirements down to four or five pieces–adding several classical selections was just a lot more work, in his case, for places he wasn’t that interested in.

These schools also do not require classical:
NYU,NEC,Berklee,New School,Miami Frost,SUNY Purchase, UCLA,Manhattan School of Music.

I’ll be sure to tell my friend. I’m interested in this stuff too as I’m both a guitarist and a bassist.

Just to clarify an earlier post, University of Oregon requires a contemporary guitar audition in addition to the jazz guitar audition. So basically you do two auditions and you can play jazz for both. You do not need to do a classical audition. The first guitar audition determines if you are accepted into the School of Music. The jazz audition then will determine your acceptance into the jazz program.

Anyone have any thoughts on the quality of the jazz program at Oregon?
