Hi, What are some good summer jazz piano programs for high school age kids

New York Summer Music Festival out of the SUNY-Oneonta doesn't push its jazz program as much as it does its classical ... but there are some good faculty there for jazz; most coming from Manhattan School of Music. Summer Music Camp - NYSMF - New York Summer Music Festival - for Outstanding Young Musicians

Our daughter went for voice last year for 2 weeks, and she'll be returning for a longer stay this summer. really loved the atmosphere.

Where do you live, or how far are you willing to travel? There are lots of great programs, but some of them have deadlines at the end of Feb.

Son has done 1 week jazz camps at U of North Fla, FSU and Jamey Aebersold (U of louisville). Liked all 3. They give a brief placement audition and theory test and group students accordingly.
He also applied and was accepted to the Brubeck Summer Jazz Colony in Stockton, CA this past summer. That was a great experience! They only take 3 pianists though.

Here are a couple in Michigan:

Interlochen Interlochen :: Summer Arts Camp :: Jazz

Blue Lake
Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp Jazz Program

Not sure how much you are willing to spend or how long your child wants to be at camp, but these are at opposite ends of the spectrum.

I second Brubeck jazz colony. Also, the Berklee 5 week performance program is great, just about every jazz musician I know has done it.

Stanford Jazz Camp, if you're on the W Coast.

My son, a jazz pianist, attended the National High School Music Institute at Northwestern (5 wks) and the Univerity of the Arts in Philly (2 wks.). Both were good experiences.

We live in California, but are willing to travel anywhere. My son went
to Eastman last summer

Kind of along the same line. . . has anyone ever entered and/or won the Guthman Piano Competition in Atlanta? Classical/jazz or both. Any info?
Thanks.
