Jazz Studies.

I Know that CC has basically talked about college programs, but I was wondering if anyone had any information on strong graduate programs for Jazz Studies.

My son will be starting his senior year as a BM in Jazz Studies/Trumpet Performance, and we are now beginning our graduate school search. In addition to the well known University of North Texas, Manhattan School of Music, Eastman School of Music and University of Miami, we were wondering if anyone had first hand information on other programs to explore.

Thanks for any help with this.

As long as you'll be making an audition trip to NYC, he should look at Juilliard's jazz program, too.

I thought Julliard's program was only for undergraduate. Did we miss something?

I know some excellent folks who have graduated from the following:

William Paterson University - http://www.wpunj.edu/coac/music/programs/gradjazz.html

Rutgers (Mason Gross) - http://mgsa.rutgers.edu/music/mus_grad_academic_mmjazz.html

from the Juilliard website:

"Selected by audition, these 18 young artists became the first class in the program, which now offers a four-year bachelor's degree in music as well as a two-year post bachelor's Artist Diploma. (Students applying for the tuition-free, pre-professional, Artist Diploma must already have a bachelor's degree.)"
