I would appreciate all the help I can get on this major decision.
I am a senior high school student aspiring to become a biomedical engineer. I really like the silicon valley (lots of opportunities during and after college), however not really into the SJSU commuter lifestyle but I think I can live with it. I also like the fact that I’m not too far from home (I live near Sac). Cal Poly Pomona is on the bottom of my list so far: Its too far down south and the yearly costs are about the same for CPP and SJSU.
So I have a few options, going straight to SJSU or Cal Poly Pomona and likely staying in either of these until receiving my bachelors due to the difficulties of transferring out of a CSU (I’m leaning more towards SJSU). Or I can go to Sierra Community College and attempt to transfer to UC Berkeley (or any higher tier college) after two years, and again using SJSU as a backup or any other UC.
I really would like to go straight to a 4-year college and I think I would be just as successful with getting a job graduating SJSU. I consider myself a generally good student (1280 SAT score, 4.1 GPA with AP and JC courses in high school, etc) so I think taking the 2nd route would land me a good shot at UC Berkeley or a higher tier college.
So my question is should I just goto SJSU? Would going to UC Berkeley instead of SJSU increase my chances of getting a job/ higher salary?
Any information would be greatly appreciated.
