JC transfer to UC davis

I have been accepted to my local csu campuses but im thinking i would rather get a degree from a UC school. preferably UC davis. i heard that it is hard to transfer from a csu to a UC school...is that true? and is it possible to do only one year at a jc and then transfer to a UC?

It is pretty hard to transfer from a CSU to a UC but not impossible. Yes you can graduate from a community college to a UC school in one year but you must complete 60 units which is around 26-30 courses so it is a lot of work. In order to be done in a year you will have to take several summer and winter classes and take over twenty units a semester which I believe you will have to petition for to take that many units.

If your goal is to get into a UC school particularly Davis, do not go to a CSU school. if you can get above a 3.2 GPA you can get a guaranteed admission contract with Davis and several other UCs so I strongly suggest going to a community college.

So I couldn't just take the usual amount of classes my first year at the JC and then transfer to UC Davis to finish my general ed courses?

No. Take at least 60 units in a JC (about 15 units per semester to get out in 2 years) to transfer as a junior. Lower-Division transfers have a lower acceptance rate due to limited spaces available in most UC's.

should i just apply as a sophomore with only about 30 units completed anyways and if i dont get accepted then just apply again as a junior or will applying twice hurt my chances of acceptance? i am wanting to pursue med school so i want to go to a UC asap

Getting into Davis should be cake with a TAG(Transfer Admissions Guarantee). I know my school has one. Basically, you sign a contract with UC Davis saying you'll maintain a certain GPA(at my JC its 2.9-3.1 depending on major; less for College of Letters & Science and more for Engineering) and other criteria and you'll be admitted.

go to JC seriously! cheaper... and they got TAG program at JC so it's fairly easy to get in! Gluck!

You could apply as a sophomore but Davis will look at your high school and college record equally. Also I believe that some majors are closed to sophomore applicants, so if your major is not is not closed to sophomore applicants then you can go right ahead.

Most majors are closed to lower division transfer students. The only College that will consider lower division transfer students is the College of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences; even then some majors are closed to lower division transfer students. To be considered as a lower division transfer student you must be UC eligible as a freshman; this means you completed the "a-g" courses and took the ACT plus Writing or SAT Reasoning and the SAT Subject exam requirements.
