Jefferson Scholars- 1st round interview

Hi guys!
I just got my email today saying I made it into the first round of interviews. I was just wondering if anyone knew any stats about how many make it to the first round or even past that. I was very surprised to even make it to the first round and I don't expect to get past it, but I am curious just the same.
Also, does anyone have any tips for the interview/ or advice from those who have already went through the process?
Thanks!

I made it to the first round too. So nervous for interviews, I have mine next week. The e-mail said they’re only choosing 10 people from my region to move on to the second round. I’m so skeptical. :(

my email didnt say how many people they would choose? hmmm…idk! what region are you in?

My email said there were two regional interview rounds. My region has 31 nominees that were selected for the initial interview and only two will move onto the finalist weekend at UVA. I’m not sure how many are making it to the second round of regional interviews though.

eeeeep! good luck to all, I’m sure you will do awesome! Maybe you could post on here after you have had your interviews to give some advice to the rest of us who havent gone? Ik mine is January 8th…coming up sooon…

The interviews last about 10-15 minutes. You will be asked different questions for them to get to know you beyond the essay you wrote. Through your answers share with them who you are and elaborate on your extra curricular activities/passions that are important to you and why. They may also ask other interview type questions, i.e. favorite book/author; a current event important to you. Hope this helps.

Thank you! it does

Only 10-15 minutes?! Are you sure?!

Yes. Most last 15 minutes. Some have only been 10. It depends on the number they are interviewing for the region. How quickly the students move through the process, etc. Make sure you arrive a little early. You are asked 3-5 questions, usually.

Wow. well I emailed one of the committee members and he told me half an hour. I would have preferred 15 minutes :p

but it is a bit annoying that for me, it’s a 45 minute drive for an even shorter interview -_-

my letter says it lasts about 20 minutes…maybe each region is different in length as well?

For the past 10 years this region has been roughly 15 minutes. Your region may not have as many students they interview or they have decided to elongate the time frame to get to know the applicants better. Best of luck!

Thank you! If you dont mind me asking what region are you from?

It’s a huge ROI if it works out! Good luck, everyone!

Thank you Dean! and “ROI”? hahah I’m not familiar with that?

ROI = Return on investment

The return on your 30 minutes investment might be pretty huge! :)

oh ahha! silly me :)

I had my interview today! It went well; the interviewers were really nice and asked some great questions.
I forgot to ask though what happens next? Are we notified soon about if we made it into the next round or not? I’m not even sure what the next round is or if the next round varies by region. Did anyone ask their interviewers what happens next?

If you received an email letting you know when the interview will take place it should also state when they will notify interviewees regarding the next round.

i had my interview today also! what region are you in? Mine is only one round and they interview in 2 days and im not sure how long it takes for them to notify us, but it shouldnt take that long i think!
