Jefferson Scholars (at large)

I got a call today from the director of the Jefferson Scholars program saying I'd been chosen to compete for the scholarship. My state can't nominate directly, so I was really hoping (but not expecting) to hear this!

Did anyone else hear anything similar? Does anyone know how the process differs for kids who were selected from the general pool of applicants as opposed to those who were nominated directly? Also, does this mean I'm in at UVa or at least have a good shot?

I haven't called her back yet (I got home late tonight and just got the message) but I was wondering if anyone else was in a similar situation.

You're in UVa. Before notifying finalists, the foundation checks to verify that you have been admitted to the university. I called the Jefferson Scholars office to confirm. Congratulations.

I'm sure that once you get to the selection weekend, the process isn't different for you because you're not in a region. It's pretty much the same for everyone.

yay! congratulations! ull be living in either Webb, Maupin, or Watson next year.

Don't we have to win the scholarship first? :)

when you become a national finalist, you are admitted to the university. once again, congratulations! i didn't trust jeff at first when he said that, so i too called the jefferson foundation and the (very nice, i might add) woman that answered the phone said the same thing. give them a call if you have questions, so far i've found them to be super friendly.

just as a clarification, Jefferson scholars arent housed together. Echols scholars are. While there is some significant overlap, getting the Jeff does not mean you are automatically echols. COngratulations!
and the process for national selection weekend is the same for everyone.
