I am applying ED to UVa and have just recently been selected as the nominee for the Jefferson Scholarship from my school. While I know that I have no chance whatsoever for actually winning the award, I would like to know if the actual nomination and the extra essays and interview would have a role in admissions. Is being a Jefferson Scholar nominee something that I should note on my application to make sure that the admissions department knows about? Will being nominated in the first place increase my chances for admissions? Thanks in advance for any help that any of you might be able to provide!

When I applied, I put my status as a jscholar nominee on my app. I don't really know how much it helped, but I'm sure it's something they'd like to see. If you're an instate applicant, you're the only one from your school to be nominated, which is an honor.

i have a friend who was nominated (in-state) two years ago and did not get it. She was perfect academically but not so good on the speech/improv. speaking part. She told me that that is what will make or break your actually getting the scholarship, how well you can prepare and speak in front of a panel of intimidating and accomplished lawyers and such.

GOOD LUCK. i hope you get it.

and cavalier! when did you get notified for the echols thing? was it when they sent you acceptance or after may or something?

cheers

redazelea, I received an email notifying me of my acceptance to both UVA and the Echols program on march 15, which was about two weeks before everyone else was notified of decisions.
