Jefferson Scholarship interview

My daughter was nominated by her HS for the Jefferson Scholarship at UVA, and found out today that she is moving to the regional review phase and will be having an interview in January. Anyone have any info as to what types of questions are asked, and how to prepare?

My daughter just found out today about an interview for our region. I did see a different thread here where someone was asked about current events and delved into the student’s ECs.

littlerobot - what is your region?
Wondering if anyone else’s child has received a regional interview invitation yet?

My daughter got an email today stating interviews will be held last week of January or first week of February.

We are in New England and it sounds like the letters were sent at pretty varied times throughout the last couple of months. Rocky PA’s daughter got an invitation back in Dec. My daughter’s interview is in February.

Thanks all, just wasn’t sure if they were still actively sending regional interview notifications or not. Seems they are but I do also know of someone else in our region who received their regional interview invitation in December. That may mean the door is closed already or maybe not. Just thought I would inquire. Maybe a few more folks will respond on this thread so we will know how the timeline is progressing.

hey, im from the midwest and i had my regional interview this past week. here are the questions i remember

  • Do you have any weaknesses?
  • What high school accomplishment are you most proud of that relates to the three pillars of the Jefferson scholarship?
  • What are your thoughts on the state of the world today
-Because I mentioned having a ‘global worldview’
  • What do you hope to gain from your college experience?
  • Pick between funding these two nonprofits: an underdog that’s not well established or a
a large organization that has had many successes and Why?
-Because of my involvement with an organization that provides
    grants to nonprofits
  • What do you do for fun in your free time?
  • What is a change you’d like to make in your school?
  • What word would your friends use to describe you?

Just had mine the other day

here are some questions they asked (keep in mind my application revolves around me wanting to be an art lawyer-they are tailored to you)

-Tell us about yourself
-How do you plan to integrate your creative mindset into your studies at UVA?
-You discussed starting a small business/project to revitalize the importance of art could you expand on that?
-if someone were to write a book on your life once you’re old what do you want to be remembered for?
-How did you get into law?
-could you expand on your experience with working with others with opposing mindsets?
-what motivated you to create 500 cards for a card drive? (this was about my extracurriculars)
-what is it you like about UVA?
-if someone gave you 100k to not go to school what would you do?

(that’s all I remember)

Overall they want to get to know YOU-be yourself & show your firm opinions. Personally, I was really nervous about it but they were really friendly & it wasn’t bad at all! Don’t forget eye contact & dress nicely!
