"your society" im not white for your information, so you can stop there. get over racism, and stop playing the stupid race card. its been 200 years since slavery, and americas over it. any situations involving the law and a black person has become issues over race. if you think "white america" refuses to look at you as equals, then join the rest of us out there. but listening to the media and blowing up situations, like that of jena, is ridiculous. it just adds to already existing hostility.

"any situations involving the law and a black person has become issues over race."

the case of Jena is certainly not a normal case. The DA has repeatedly prosecuted black individuals while turning a blind eye to them good ol' boys.

btw, slavery did not end 200 years ago. it ended 142 years ago. institutionalized discrimination oficially ended just 40 years ago, although we all know it still permeates certain corridors of white society (Jena).

your also comparing a fight between kids at a party, to where 6 kids jumped one kid and beat him till he was unconscious and had a concussion, as someone corrected me before. you're comparing the two?

black or not, that's jail time.

"you[']re also comparing a fight between kids at a party, to where 6 kids jumped one kid and beat him till he was unconscious and had a concussion, as someone corrected me before. you're comparing the two?"

the white kids jumped (as a group, if you don't understand what "jumped" means) the black kid at an all-white party.

black or not, that's jail time - except, maybe, for a WASP in Jena, Illinois, of course

btw, Justin Barker was not seriously injured. He went to a school ring ceremony the same night.

I generally dislike people playing the race card. In this case, though, the whole thing is so clearly racist that I am extremely surprised anyone is still trying to deny that fact.

Is violence wrong? yes. but violence, in this case, was not unprovoked. The white students at Jena high started it - the black kids finished it.
[/quote]
All white kids and black kids are not synonymous. This white kid had done nothing (at least that has been reported) to deserve this.

That also makes no sense. Someone could be shot at and the bullet could miss. That person could also go to a ring ceremony that following night. The situation is that 6 people were beating an unconscious person and they (or at least some of them) stopped only after other people pulled them away. These kids are thugs, nothing less.

This is a non-issue. Nothing very significant occurred. The fact that tens of thousands of protestors have descended upon the town doesn't irk me; they should be able to do so if they want to. However, it is a remarkable waste of ATP. If the Turkmen secret police was to slaughter 37 political dissidents by hanging, drawing, and quartering, it would gain less American media attention than this blip in the course of history in Jena.

correcting my grammar? i don't like to edit my posts, like you 've done twice.
so your keep your ignorance to yourself.

and no, they did not jump the black kid at the party. it was a fight between 2-3 kids, and they black kid got mad that they made fun of him about it.

i think the charges were really excessive, but that doesn't mean that they should have gotten completely off the hook because they did beat the guy up pretty bad (no matter if he did go to the dance afterwards), instead they should've gotten charged with assault
and the white kids should've gotten charged with a hate crime i mean if you just draw a swastika thats like a police investigation and news story here

The problem should have been solved at the school level.

When Vincent Chin was murdered by two White racists back in the 1980s, the scumbags received NO JAIL TIME and only 3 years of probation.

Six Black kids beat up a White kid and they get LIFE IN PRISON?

And the noose on the tree as a prank for a football game? I'm sincerely saddened that some of you may end up in some of the country's most prestigious universities.

Use your brains, people.

uh, go check your facts. the initial sentence was 22 years, not "life in prison".

and nooses have been used in several states for different meanings. i think next time you should google info before you post something, so you don't come off as ignorant as you did earlier.

"And nooses have been used in several states for different meanings. i think next time you should google info before you post something, so you don't come off as ignorant as you did earlier."

^^looks like talkaboutambition is siding with the good ol' boys again.

talkaboutambition, once again, that last comment of yours was pretty darn ignorant. either you are blind to the meaning of a noose hanging from a tree in a segregated town in the south, or you are arguing simply for the sake of arguing, because OBVIOUSLY 3 NOOSES HANGING FROM A TREE IN A RACIST TOWN IS INTENDED AS A THREAT.

there, it's in caps, so you have no excuse for pussyfooting around an obvious hate crime.

"correcting my grammar? i don't like to edit my posts, like you 've done twice.

I edit my posts so that i don't sound stupid and my comments are well-spoken, unlike you. it seems like you are only capable of personal attacks with no actual substance to your arguments, so maybe you should try revising your posts. What i'm saying is by far not ignorance, it's a valid argument, one that you've thus far avoided.

"and no, they did not jump the black kid at the party. it was a fight between 2-3 kids, and they black kid got mad that they made fun of him about it."

a fight between 2-3 kids is a GROUP FIGHT, in case you didn't know.

Justin Barker was making fun of the fact that he and his friends had jumped an "n" - a racial slur, and started talking about how funny the noose incident was. Should mychal have jumped him for it? of course not. But in a town where no other recourse was available, seeing that everyone from the superintendent to the DA is a bigoted racist, I don't blame him. I would've done the same thing.

Let Jena be a message to white america that racial discrimination will not be tolerated in the 21st century.

A group fight, is very different from being jumped. A group fight is between more than 1 person on each side; this was 6 on 1 person. You don't see the difference? If you don't, you're not even smart enough to be on this forum.

"Let Jena be a message to white america that racial discrimination will not be tolerated in the 21st century".
I think people like YOU, should take note that your outbursts to every situation as racial discrimination will not be tolerated in 2007, and that you will NOT get away with crime by holding Al Sharpton's hands.

That kinda sucks for Hindu people...

General question: What is the appropriate response for something like this? Now, if the kid was knocked unconscious and continued to be beaten, what would the appropriate response be?

The Jena 6 got what they deserved.

These kids give black citizens a bad rep. People look at incidents like these and say "see the stereotypes are true" when it's just that the media covered it.

Racism will exist forever. But that doesn't mean we leave it alone. We should suppress it. Integration in schools should be pushed further and the flaws must be fixed.

the people in that town sound like a bunch of babies. clearly racism exist there and i dont think the jena six should go unpunished. but i think both sides need to accept responsibility, they need to grow up.
