are the undergrad classes taught by TAs or profs?

Professors.

(for the most part)

My Spanish 101 class this semester is taught by a grad student, but he's pretty good I think. This is true for some of the other introductory language courses.

My freshman english seminar (which wasn't required or anything) was also taught by a grad student. She was also good.

My other classes have all been taught by professors.

TA's at Rice are mainly graders, discussion section leaders (which are like voluntary review sessions - you don't have to go), and lab section leaders.

The truth is, that if you don't want to take any classes from a grad student, you never ever have to during your entire time at Rice. Classes taught by grad students are few and far between. But on the whole, the grad students that I've had have been pretty good.

M D would agree. She has had a few grad students (music aural skills etc.) and they were excellent.
