I applied, but I'm curious to see who else did.

haha i applied too. I would be ecstatic just to get into SEAS, so i’m not expecting much. M&T is a dream though

I applied. Yall think I should send my Sat subject scores? I sent my ACT so its not 'required" but you think Jerome will look at it negatively??

Note: all scores are 750 and below…:(

I applied crossing my fingers

i applied too

I applied.

just curious, but how high do you rank M&T on your college list? I have it down in my top three w/ mit and harvard and i’m not sure where’d i rather go. Perhaps I’ll get rejected from 2 of the 3 lol, it’ll be tough.

Ha M&T is my top choice.

i applied too good luck to all!

I applied too. Good luck everyone.

Any of you went to the summer M&T program?

I actually didn’t discover M&T until mid-December, so it’s been great learning about the program. Does anyone know how many people apply to the program? and the amount they accept?

It depends every year, but no more than 50.

M&T (and I suppose Huntsman too) is pretty much the hardest college program to get into in the country, so unless you’re weary of the workload or concerned about fit I would not turn it down for HYP.

wow
hardest program in the country?

i’m seriously interested in business and tech
interview was amazing

but if i get in it would still be a pretty hard choice against schools like stanford and mit

spockgirl177, if I were you I would worry about M&T choosing you, not the other way round. M&T is, by far, the most selective program in the country. If it is not your top choice, I know I’m being frank, but I doubt you’ll get in. Penn’s admission committee seems to be very good at judging student’s relative interest in Penn. With a program like M&T and Huntsman, where almost everyone in it turns HYP, MIT, and Stanford, down for it, and with hundreds willing to do so, they may not be inclined to take on someone who is not as interested in what Penn has to offer. I suppose they use your essays and the phone interview as a barometer of your interest in them.

On Wall Street M&T kids sit at the absolute pinnacle in recruiting.Wharton and Harvard make up the top ring outside of the special programs (with Wharton sending slightly more than Harvard to most IB analyst classes and private equity firms), followed by Princeton, Yale, Stanford, MIT and such schools. But don’t choose a school by IB placement. If you go to any of these schools and do well you’ll be just fine. I was just trying to demonstrate to you how Wall Street views these institutions since you seem not to be aware of that.

And it is not just M&T; from what my friends at Penn have observed, and from my own experience with students in the top schools in the country, a vast majority of students who are sure they want to get into business will turn down Yale, Princeton, Stanford, and MIT for Wharton without a second thought. The split is more even with Harvard, Wharton’s only serious competitor for this particular subset of the high school population.

It seems to me that your perception of Penn’s programs, selectivity, and offerings is a bit off. If I were you I would do more research. I wish you the best in the admissions process ! Good luck !!!

i didn’t really know M&T was that grade until my interviewer sold it to me. now i really want to get in. but just wondering, how are you guys for sure (it seems) that its the most selective program in the country? wharton’s acceptance rate is probably higher than harvard right? but how do you know that w/ M&T, its that much more difficult?

WHYP acceptance rates:

Harvard: 7.1% / 76% Yield.

Yale: 7.9% (essentially 8%) / 69 % Yield.

Wharton: 8% (or 9%, depends on the year and the markets, which affect Wharton apps more than most colleges) / 80% Yield

Princeton: 10% / 59% Yield

Conclusion: Wharton is just as selective as HYP. Based on those stats, it is essentially equal to Yale, and slightly below Harvard in terms of acceptance rates, but it beats out Princeton.

In Yield, arguably the most important statistic, Wharton is at the top, beating out all of HYP, because many people realize it is the best at what it does. (Remember, back when Harvard had ED its yield was essentially the same as it is now, not sure about the other two). If you want to get a job in finance Wharton is No. 1 for you. Some people may have other considerations as well though (like perhaps they are entertaining the idea of becoming a lawyer instead or something similar).

Most of the kids at Wharton cannot get into M&T, most of the kids at HYP cannot get into M&T. Now if Wharton is as selective as HYP you can imagine that a program a 1/10 th of its size is far more competitive. Hundreds apply, only 50 are taken into each program. No figures are released on the yield but you can assume that it is stratospheric. Look, I know many kids at the top boarding schools in the country, most who are interested in the type of things M&T has to offer put M&T at the top of the pedestal. My friend who just got into Stanford did not even apply to Huntsman (similar to M&T) because he knew it was just to god damn selective that he stood no shot.
