I havent seen too much about this at all on this board. Is anyone applying? What kinds of jobs does this lead to? And can you do premed with a dual/accelerated degree program like this?

I'm applying. I'm pretty sure you can do premed with anyone but why would you take it if you want to be a doctor? This would lead to pretty cool jobs- a management position at a high tech company is probably the most common job.

I'm a freshman in M&T right now, and I'm just doing a little advertising for my school while I'm on Thanksgiving break :-) Plus I remember spending lots of time on this board last year. You poor seniors!

ivyboy, last year at orientation someone kept asking the same question, and he just got the answer that perhaps this wasn't the right program for him if he wanted to be a doctor. but if you do this program, you have a TON of options career-wise - you can become an entrepreneur, i-banker, engineer, manager at a high-tech firm, etc. don't think you're limited to a managerial position. there's a former m&T who's an astronaut right now.

one of my friends in engineering (not m&t) is doing premed as well right now, but it's not such a good idea if you're in m&t. you already have so many requirements that it's pretty tough if you add in more.

but i encourage everyone to apply, it's a really awesome program!

I applied ED..frapgrl what were your stats?

i had good SATs, pretty good grades, business-related ecs. but the m&t people are REALLY diverse in terms of interests and high school experiences. streetlight, if you had solid grades (not necessarily straight As), tough courses, etc. you should be fine.

If you haven't visited it yet, visit the m&T website:
http://www.mandt.wharton.upenn.edu/

I have good SATs, pretty decent grades (mostly A's), the toughest courseload at my school...but no business related ECs.... I'm president of my school, New Jersey Region cabinet member in JSA, have my own rock bands, and do biomedical research...Is my lack of business ECs going to hurt me?

i highly doubt it. as i said before, they look for diversity in their student body. just chill, distract yourself until decisions come out. it's not in your hands anymore, so there's no use worrying about it...just hope for the best! good luck!

That's true...thanks a lot frapgrl

meh. applying also to M&T. good luck everyone.
had a short thanksgiving hiatus, but back in full. roar

wooo, found this thread late. I'm applying to M&T too! RD though... :)

frapgirl, do you know alan? he's also a freshman in M&T

Um, I clicked on that link...then i clicked on the "student profiles" and EACH profile says "XXX is very uncertain about his/her future" That's scary!!!!

Well, think about it. They are in a dual/joint degree program. Having both degrees opens up a vast array of possibilities, so of course they would be unsure. With all the learning they have, they could become CEOs or doctors or whatever they want.

Interesting stats I came across while surfing the net:
Class of 07 applicants for Jerome Fisher ED: 22 accepted out of 97 applications

That's like 1 in 4 for early applicants :)

umm. when you think about it.
25% is actually not that much.
early decision itself is like 33%
and still a bunch of people don't get in. refer to last years' threads

well i guess i'm just being a pessimist.
best of luck to all

Hey 25% is much better than I expect for a program that only accepts 55 kids...

They don't accept as many students as I hoped. Early decision indicates that the student really wants to attend that college. 22 students out of 55 set aside for Early students is...hm...

Where can I find posts from last year?
