Jester: East or West?

Which is the renovated one? Do the renovations make much of a difference? Which do you think is the better dorm to live in as a freshman?

I have the same questions. Also, does one have larger rooms and does one have nicer community baths (and does one or the other offer more private baths/connecting baths)?

East.

It has renovated rooms. Yes it makes a big difference. You get movable furniture instead of a bed/couch, adjustable elevated beds, brand new bathrooms. Some floors in jester east are not renovated (1st, 2nd, and I think 7th+) and they go to renovated floors to take showers.

Either is fine to live as a freshman.

WEST!!
everyone who says otherwise has never lived in jester east!!

even tho some west windows are worse than jails!!!

it beats having the athletes ****ing in youre stairwells!!! xDDD

appraently they only get free housing in jester east so if you dont wanna deal wtih punks every weekend etc past midnight on weekdaysetc

Are there really that many renovated rooms in Jester East? I was always under the impression that there weren’t that many, but I could be wrong.

I live in Jester West, and I’m really glad I’m not East. I was on the 8th floor of East during orientation, and my current room is a million times more tolerable. West has a better lounge/study area, and you don’t have to go outside to get to the cafeteria and market.

West also has a lot more connecting bathrooms, if that’s something you’re considering.

East, I think, will be fully renovated by next fall.

classywire, What do you mean when you say West was more tolerable for you? Cause I think I can live without a better lounge and cafeteria, but I do prefer a cleaner room, bathroom, etc.

My opinions:
The West study lounge is full glass, is also crowded, you can see people walking by (distractions), it is not soundproof or quiet as much as you’d like. [s]If I was going to study/s When I study, I would either stay in my room or go to the library. You get much more done. You are paying for those resources from tuition so you might as well use them. Also less people go to the jester east legend’s lounge (study area) = more privacy.

I honestly couldn’t care less that I walk outside, note that the walk is also covered, to get to the cafeteria (which is the same for East/West). Jester West has a nicer front desk - umm… ok? Unless you’re going to volunteer there, I don’t see this being an issue.

East also tends to be quieter since less people live there. Also since there are less floors, the elevator rides are typically shorter (even if east has 4 elevators vs west’s 6). I would say Jester East has a better community feel and Jester West is kind of “everyone doing their own things.”

It’s also a conversation starter to say “you live in the same dorms as the football players or basketball players.” They live in the far ends of Jester East so you don’t see them much. And they are just ordinary people too…

As a freshman, your chances of getting a connecting bath are small. I’ve already gotten my assignment for next year (which is a connecting bath). My point is that solely hoping for a connecting bath (even if it’s lower quality) is not a good enough justification for wanting jester west.

Sorry for “hating” on Jester West, I’m just trying inform others (which I think I’ve given the most information on this thread so far). As well as persuade :P
