Has anyone received news of the Jesuit high school scholarship being awarded?

Our checkmarq award still just has the ignatius of 12K.

We have been declined for the Pere Marquette scholarship, but are still waiting to get notification on the Jesuit award.

Don't want to send a decline letter without knowing the full financial package, but also don't want to wait too long, as I'm sure there are kids out there on the waiting list that would be happy to take son's place.

If all we get is the 12K Ignatius and over 32K in loans a year, son will have to wait until grad school to attend Marquette.

Really sorry about this, as it has been his number one school, as many of you know, for the past couple of years, but I can't in good conscience let him take on over 120K in loans for undergrad when he's looking at attending grad school for his biomedical engineering studies.

MONTEGUT - Sorry that the FA isn’t going to cut it. You’ve been so excited about MU. This is a tough month, isn’t it? If I were you, I would definitely call Marquette on Monday. We had been waiting and hoping that D got some $ from the scholarship competition. We called and were told that apparently some letters were lost in the mail.

None of my Ds financial aid packages have been what we were hoping for and worse yet none of them are in line with what we had projected for college costs. Even her safety, our state college, would cost over $31,000 from our pocket. That is over 50% higher than 3 years ago when we did this with S.

I feel bad for getting son so excited about Marquette, as I too had projected that we would be able to afford it. We thought, with the Jesuit half tuition, one of the most generous of all the Jesuit colleges, plus perhaps an alumni club scholarship and the Pere Marquette, we might be able to do it and not have to incur so much debt. But with the rejection on the Pere Marquette and the alumni club scholarship no longer being available in our region, that was 10K we were hoping for that did not materialize. I also was hoping for an additional small Magis award that does not seem to be available this year as well. We unfortunately have not been able to save as much toward college as we would have liked, as we’ve been paying for Catholic schools for the last twelve years. You are lucky that in your region of the country, you have wonderful public schools that allow you to save for college. Although our region will never have the wonderful public schools that you have, our state is now phasing out the academic incentive scholarships for instate students and is going to allow our state universities to raise tuition as much as 30 percent. Within a few years, it will be like it was when I was growing up, going to the state flagship, out of driving distance from home, will be a luxury few will be able to afford.

Montegut – This sounds so tough for you. You are not alone. So few schools meet anything close to full need, and the boards are full of these stories. Your son sounds amazing, and I am sure he will bloom wherever he is planted. Unfortunately, an early lesson in tough finances is NOT a bad thing for our kids and will serve them well as adults.
Maybe a phone call to Marquette will help, and that other scholarship is still in the offing.

Have faith that things turn out the way they are meant to be! All the best to you, my CC friend!

I called early last week and unfortunately learned my D did not get the Jesuit Scholarship - but they were able to look it up by high school, so you should be able to find out with a phone call Monday. Good luck!
