I am trying to choose between two schools, Whitman and Santa Clara. One is a liberal arts college and one is a Jesuit school. Will either type give me better opportunities in the long run as far as graduate schools or jobs?

both schools are considered excellent, and it depends on what you want to study. Even tho Santa Clara is a university, you can recieve a liberal arts-type education there. Visit if you can, and see which one feels better. Whitman is much smaller, and has a much more limited course selection, whereas Santa Clara has D1 sports, and professional schools.

thanks. thats good to hear. after visits, i liked santa clara much more. a few things i have been hearing are that they are both very well respected in their surrounding areas. i would prefer to live in northern California than Washington, where I have lived my whole life. i still wonder, will there be a big difference when i go to apply to grad schools or look for a job?
