What's Jewish Life like at Haverford? I know the "raw" number of Jewish kids large enough, but are activities/services scheduled regularly? How many for a typical Shabbat? What's the deal with both JSU and Hillel? Kosher food available? (or veggie?) Is there a Chabad? I'd love to hear from some current students, or recent alums.

I got this from the HC website... go to student life, then activities and then religious groups... the names of the students are linked so you can contact them if you're on the original page.

Haverford Israel Public Affairs Committee (HIPAC): HIPACs primary goal is to facilitate a continuing campus-wide conversation about political affairs regarding Israel. We intend to accomplish this by hosting speakers with a variety of perspectives, panel discussions, and open forums. We hope to discuss topics that are often pushed under the table (for example, last year HIPAC hosted a speaker about gays in the Israeli military). Our second goal is to increase awareness of the rich Israeli culture that exists, independent of politics. We plan to share the excitement of Israeli dancing, Israeli food and Israeli art with the student body. Contact: Allie Cutler and Sarah Freilich

Hillel: Bryn Mawr/Haverford Hillel is a bi-college student-run organization. Social, educational, political and religious programs are planned by the student organization, the Jewish Student Union and other interested students. Among the numerous programs sponsored by Hillel are weekly Friday night Shabbat services and kosher dinners, and observances for all the Jewish holidays. Hillel also sponsors cultural and social events, such as an opening barbecue, parties, speakers and performances. Please stop by the office for more info. Office phone: 610-896-4988, Campus Center 212-213.

Jewish Student Union, Bi-CO (JSU): The Bi-College Jewish Student Union is an organization dedicated to hosting a variety of Jewish religious, cultural, social and education events for the Bi-Co's estimated 500 Jewish students and the community at large. Contacts: Ben Zussman, Naomi Spector and Rebecca Zeldin

Just a tidbit, but I know that Haverford, Bryn Mawr and Swarthmore have a Tri-co Jewish a capella group, if you're interested in that sort of thing :)

Well i live like 5 minutes from Haverford. I can tell you that our area is very very very well represented with Jews such as myself :) We have about 5 synagogues in the area and a newer chabad. Shabbat is never a problem :)

Can you tell me where I can find more info on the local Chabad?
