Is there a Hillel or Chabad associated with Fordham? Is there a Jewish population to support it? A student who otherwise loves the school is concerned that she will be part of too small a minority on campus. Any thoughts?

There is a Hillel, and lots of Jewish students on campus. Fordham is very supportive of all religions.

My child (not religious) feels very comfortable at Fordham.

My D (knowledgeable by not observant) also feels comfortable at Fordham. She is a freshman at the RH campus. There is a Jewish Students organization on the RH campus but no Hillel or Chabad. (I don’t know if she has attended any of the events). She has not met all that many Jewish students on campus. They offered transportation to Columbia for any student who wanted to attend High Holidays services.

My daughter brought an electric menorah to campus for Hanukkah and taught her friends songs and they were happy to learn about Hanukkah and celebrate with her. It seems to me that the attitude is respectful and interested. But it isn’t like NYU in the number of Jewish students on the RH campus.

It is possible that there is a higher percentage of students on the LC campus, but I don’t know that much about that campus.

FWIW, a Jewish alum just gave Fordham a large donation to fund a Judaic Studies chair [$3 Million Gift To Advance Judaic Studies](<a href=“Fordham University”>Fordham University)

Dear Hen: Congratulations for the generous donation.
Dear Jesuits: Thanks for educating the world. (or at least trying). Everyone is welcome in the school.

My daughter, an alumna of Fordham College at Rose Hill, Phi Beta Kappa, had MANY Jewish friends. One of whom is at Harvard Divinity School presently in a graduate program.

While Fordham is Jesuit and Catholic, it is also amazingly diverse and open door to people of all faith traditions.

D just told me that the Jewish Students Organization is arranging a group to go on a Birthright trip to Israel this summer.

Thank you all for your thoughtful responses re: Jewish students.
