Jews @ Pomona

What is Jewish life like at Pomona and the 5Cs?

More specifically...
What % of the student body is Jewish? Is the Hillel active? Are there Hebrew/Judaica classes offered? Is there study abroad in Israel? What is campus opinion like on the current situation in Israel/Gaza?

And anything else you think might be relevant.

Thanks!

I'm not Jewish, but I know a lot of Jewish students at Pomona and the 5 Cs in general.

Pomona itself does not offer a Jewish Studies major, nor does it offer Hebrew (nor do any of the 5-Cs), but our Religious Studies department has a track in Western Religions and has some Jewish studies scholars. I'd recommend e-mailing the department and asking what the 5-C's options are for such classes. Here's their department home page:

The Hillel is for all 5 colleges and I know that they are very active on campus. Here's their web address:

Good luck, and sorry I can't offer you any more concrete answers.

You might be able to find more concrete statistics for the Jewish population in Claremont here:

It's hard to get campus opinion on current events, as Pomona's been on break since early December, but Pomona has a very active Jewish community. There is at least one study abroad program in Israel.
