what are the top "feeder" undergraduate schools to the jh med program? do they favor specific schools over others? i'm applying to colgate u, william & mary, duke, gettysburg, tufts, u penn, vanderbilt, and wake forest. i plan on double majoring in history and either biology or chemistry (possibly biochemistry or premedicine depending on the school). would they prefer a small liberal arts college (such as colgate) or a well-known "med-school" (such as duke)? do you think i would have a better chance on being accepted if i have a unique background? this would help me decide where i do my undergrad study. all are good history schools, but my goal is to get into jh med, so i'm more concerned with my other major. thanks (:

I think their number one feeder school is Hopkins. They don’t care where you come from or what you major in. They want people they think will make good doctors.

There’s really no such thing as a feeder school to JHUSOM. In fact, they really like diversity, so the more unique you can be while doing incredibly well in all your classes, the better. (It also helps to save at least 50 babies in Africa from AIDS. This is just a baseline for accepted applicants – the more the merrier).

There is one notable trend: Hopkins SOM tends to take more male students from the traditional east coast elite undergrads, but, will take females from everywhere, including state schools. There were females in my class from Rutgers, Ohio State, Notre Dame, Lehigh, Providence, Maryland, North Carolina, and Michigan.
