Thought I would start a wait list thread. Has anyone read any statistics as to how many JHU offered to be placed in the wait list and how many accepted? Any thoughts on % of getting an offer?

As the offer notices are received - please post the following:

1) Did you communicate interest to the school since your wait list letter
2) Do you expect to get financial aid
3) What school did you accept on May 1st
4) Do you now plan to attend JHU

No need to post grades or ECs as everyone on the wait list likely has very similar credentials.

Bump!

Waitlist stats are recorded in the school’s Common Data Set (CDS) documents. For Hopkins, visit <a href=“Registrar - Homewood Schools (KSAS & WSE) | Office of the Registrar | Johns Hopkins University”>Registrar - Homewood Schools (KSAS & WSE) | Office of the Registrar | Johns Hopkins University; and click on the CDS link for various years. Skip to section C2 of the CDS for the waitlist data. If you are not familiar with the CDS, you will probably want to read the whole thing - very interesting info in there!

Here’s what’s reported in the JHU CDS over the past 3 years:

2013-2014
Students offered a position on the waitlist: 2069
Students accepting a position on the waitlist: 1032
Students admitted from the waitlist: 57

2012-2013
Students offered a position on the waitlist: 2730
Students accepting a position on the waitlist: 2442
Students admitted from the waitlist: 1

2011-2012
Students offered a position on the waitlist: 2725
Students accepting a position on the waitlist: 2364
Students admitted from the waitlist: 19

So, it varies from year to year, but chances are pretty slim.

Our daughter spoke with an admissions officer last week. It seems like JHU’s yield is very high this year, minimizing use of the wait list. Anyone received a positive or negative response?

Haven’t heard anything.

Follow up question: Will they let you know either way, or only if they have an offer?

They were not helpful when D spoke to them, only saying they hoped to let folks know as soon as possible.

I also heard that they had a higher than expected yield this year, so I wouldn’t hold out too much hope for the waitlist.
