As we all know by now, this forum has been blessed by the regular participation of an official representatives of JHU. As a little token of CC's appreciation, I thought AdmissionsDaniel and his fellow officers should have a dedicated space for the purpose of posting important messages or simply expressing their thoughts on relevant issues.

To our posters, please do NOT use this thread to post questions or comments. This thread will be stickied for easy access, but is also meant to remain as uncluttered as possible.

College Confidential hopes that Daniel and other JHU admission officers will find this little "corner" helpful.

Hello all!

As you can see I was away for a few days, but I think I have caught up and responded to everyone with questions. I hope you found the information helpful. Just so you know, my busy season is beginning again so I will not be able to check CC daily, but will probably be able to check every 3-4 days. So as always, just have a bit of patience.

As I was going through all the old posts, I came up with a few suggestions to make the JHU CC discussion board easier to manage for all:

(1) NO MORE TITLES THAT READ
"A Questions for AdmissionsDaniel"
"AdmissionsDaniel help me"
"To AdmissionsDaniel, ..."

(2) In your titles, mention the topics you are asking about - TOEFL, SATs, interviews, recommendations, etc. It makes it easier to follow.

(3) If you have a question, it is not always necessary to start a new thread. Ask questions on threads that have already been started and relate to your questions. It is much easier to have 6,7,8 ++ questions on standardized test questions, then have that many separate threads.

(4) SEARCH OLD THREADS AND THE JHU ADMISSIONS WEB SITE before asking your questions. So, so, so many topics are being recycled. If you just spent about five minutes searching you will find the answers.

(5) I do not respond to any CHANCES threads. Sorry

Cheers!!!

First, a special thanks to Trinity for suggesting and then setting up this JHU Admission Officers' Corner. As stated above, I will be posting here updates and other important messages that I hope you will all read and find helpful. Additionally, myself and in the future some of my colleagues will be posting some fun and interesting topics as well, to help you all get a better more comprehensive view of JHU.

Second, please pay attention to Trinity's request "to NOT use this thread to post questions or comments. This thread will be stickied for easy access, but is also meant to remain as uncluttered as possible." Also, it is beneficial to you all as posters to read my suggestions above to keep the JHU CC Board the most effective and accessible for all.

Finally, I thought I would post a quick update about what myself and my colleagues are up to and will be up to over the next few weeks:

*Summer vacations are coming to end for us. So Sad.
*A number of us are drudging through our web content (at http://apply.jhu.edu) and updating everything we can by the end of the month.
*The Counseling team has welcomed three new staff members in the last couple of weeks and we are back to a full staff again.
*Myself and the Hopkins Interactive students are working diligently to re-launch Hopkins Interactive in September.
*Everyone is excited to welcome the Class of 2010 to campus in less than two weeks.
*The campus is excited for the opening of Charles Common (it looks great) and the start of Aramark as our dining vendor (good changes ahead).
*The Operations team has already begun to process application materials, and there are already thousands of online applications in progress.
*The staff is finalizing fall travel arrangements, and are getting ready to hit the road in about a month.
*Fall visit programs and dates are being organized and arranged, and will be posted on the web by the end of the month.

I could go on...but I'll sum it up this way. WE ARE BUSY!!!

Cheers.

Oh yeah...I forgot one thing...

A REQUEST
For those who visited JHU this past spring or summer, you should check out the new College Confidiential section on "Campus Visits" and post a visit report. (http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/visits/)

JHU has no visit reports yet...let's fix that.

Hey all...

...so I hope many of you have appreciated my assistance over the past year. Now I am requesting some assistance from all those I have helped.

Please read my most recent Hopkins Insider blog post and respond in the comments section.

I would greatly appreciate your feedback.

Thanks!!!

Greetings all...

Yes, it has been three weeks since my last post on College Confidential. Don't worry, I am not going to abandon you all. I am back and will try to respond to the three pages worth of questions out there in the next few days.

Where was I? Well simple, I was busy and unfortunately when I become busy, CC is not a priority. To see what has been up, you should read some of my most recent Hopkins Insider posts:

OK, I just spent two hours on a Sunday trying to catch up on all the questions from the past three weeks. If I didn't get to your question, then please post again or bump it to the top. I will try to check every few days.

But before doing that, please SEARCH THE ARCHIVES & SEARCH THE JHU WEB SITE. Most of your questions have been asked before.

And for all these CHANCES threads. Seriously, are they worth it? Read what I have posted about the admissions process at Hopkins. Asking your peers about your chances and then putting all of your confidence in their responses just isn't logical. Put together the best application you can, and then keep your fingers crossed. That is all -- NOTHING can be predicted.

Hello CC people,

Just thought I would let you all know that Hopkins Interactive has re-launched. Check out the new site here:

http://apply.jhu.edu/hi/

And read my tour of the new site in my most recent Hopkins Insider post:

Enjoy!!!!!!

oops - sorry
thanks Bill.

Is my D an international student when she applies JHU?

Hi, Daniel,

My D is applying JHU RD. My petition for permanent resident has been approved and she is waiting for her green card. Now her status is AOS (Adjust of Status), which means she can do anything a green card holder can do, such as working, studying, and travelling. Of course, she does not need a student visa (F1) if she gets in JHU. The only exception is that she does not have a real green card on hand at this moment.

Is she will be classified as an international student, or a permanent resident in the admission procedure?

I need your guidence on this issue. Thanks in advance.

Since your daughter is at the final stage of gaining official permanent resident status, she will be treated in the admissions review as a permanent resident and not an international student.

HOWEVER, this may not be true for financial aid. If your daughter plans to apply for financial assistance, I am not sure how that process would work. I strongly encourage you to call the Financial Aid office to speak about your daughter's personal situation: 410-516-8028.

Thnaks. I am going to call the Financial Aid office for the details.

Hi AdmissionsDaniel... I'm applying RD to Hopkins and am wondering if there is a disadvantatge in using the common application instead of JHU's application. Does JHU believe that a student is more interested in Hopkins if he or she uses Hopkins' app as opposed to the Common App.? Thanks

Also: Do BME applicants have any additional essays, etc. on their application (I thought I remember seeing this in my JHU catalog but I can't find anything of the sort on the common app.)? And is it okay if my second choice major is biology, which is not in the school of engineering? Thanks

username4321:

(1) We have absolutely no preference as to which type of application you use - JHU or Common, online or paper. Choose your favorite, they all look the same to us.
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=241173&highlight=preference

(2) There is no additional information that a BME applicant has to submit. And yes, you can select an Arts & Sciences major as your second choice.

Thanks, AdmissionsDaniel!
