I am a senior in high school, and I applied to Johns Hopkins through Early Decision. If I get accepted, I would really like to swim on the Johns Hopkins swim team, and I think my times are pretty comparable to those of the people on the swim team. However, my high school doesn't have a swim team, and I didn't swim on a club team this year or the last half of last year due to academic obligations. However, I swam on a summer league this past summer (as I have done every summer since I was 10), so I only have current times for 50 meter races. I have official times for other races, but they are outdated now, and I won't be able to get new official times until about February. Should I fill out the athletic questionare now, and use the times I have, or should I wait until after I get newer official times?? Would filling out the questionare have any impact on my application for the school??? Thanks of the help!

Swimmer4life089, you might want to e-mail the coach and tell him your previous times, and explain to him how long it has been since "regular" swim meets. My D quit USA swimming 6 months ago, and now starting back up high school swimming, whe was shocked how bad her times have become. If you want to maybe be a walk on, I would suggest starting now, either USA club swimming or perhaps your local YMCA Masters team, alot of them have workouts before school. It seems as if you were previously a USA swimmer, so the YMCA option, Masters or self swim, is a good option. D has done the Y thing before when whe had conflicts, she just used workouts from her club team. Good Luck!

That's some good advice you got from GA2012MOM and I would agree ... you should email the coach. It can't hurt. Also, if you fill out the questionnaire that will not impact your admissions decision one way or the other ... that is a form for athletics only.

It seems as if the most likely scenario if you are admitted is that you will try out for the team as a walk-on.
