Feeling really depressed after looking at my Junior year grades (How bad do four Bs this year look, I feel so screwed right now). JHU's my dream school, and I really want to apply ED (major in Public Health and Anthropology), but I'm not sure if I have what it takes after this year. :/ Can someone please chance me, or give me some hope D:

GPA- 3.5 (Yah, this year really brought me down. :/ I had As Freshman year, two Bs sophomore year, but this year was just difficult for me. D: )
SAT- 2180 (Going to retake in October to boost my math score)
Including senior year, I will have take around 8 AP courses.

I have several extra-curriculars related to service/culture and 4 leadership positions---I could delve deeper into these activities, if you would like.

Although I have a lot of activities, I feel like my grades will bring me down, especially when I look at the ED results of past students. How could I show JHU that I'm more that the letters they see on my transcript?

Thank you so much if you respond to this, any info will mean a lot to me!

OK, first of all - breathe, and relax. Imo, your chances aren’t shot yet. I dug through my transcript and I realized I had three Bs (80-90) in my junior year (arguably my worst year too).
Also, your SAT scores are good. If you can bring your math score up, that’d be even more awesome.

I’m probably not very reliable when it comes to this, so I’ll just repeat what I’ve summarized from numerous advice on CC. You can “shine” through your essays. You have to tell the adcom about why you chose to do your ECs, what special lessons you pick from your experiences, etc. Try to give your own unique, personal twist to them and write in a compelling way. I think Hopkins’ second essay prompt (if it’s still the same) is very open-ended: “Tell us something about you. While this essay isn’t meant to be formal, you should still pay attention to grammar and punctuation.”. Since it’s not meant to be formal, feel free to do anything creative with it! Also, answer with an honest, personal reason to the first prompt (why JHU/why XXX major). Tell them about an experience that led you to such a decision. You’ll have to clearly explain why you wanted to combine Public Health and Anthro, and why JHU is perfect for that goal.

GOOD LUCK! Hope I see you at Homewood in a year or so! :D

P.S. CC users are not representative of the entire applicant pool. There are definitely those who got in ED with lower scores than those posted here.
