JHU EARLY DECISION chances?

Do I have a chance? I know it is a 50% ED chance but my EC's are a bit lackluster... I want to major in Biology...

Class Rank (as of 2nd semester of junior year, probably still the same): 9/687 (1.3%)

Difficulty of Classes-Most difficult classes offered at school (no joke), Full IB Diploma Candidate with AP tests thrown in for good measure...

AP Tests:
4-AP Euro
4-Ap Spanish
4-AP Chem
5-Ap Calc BC
5-APUSH

Participated in MESA for 2 years, won a couple of local awards and a 3rd place regional award

Over 100 hours volunteered tutoring at the library since 7th grade(required for IB though)
Over 100 hours volunteering at a hospital Since the end of Junior Year
Over 100 hours volunteering at a Nursing Home since end of Sophomore year

Working since 2007 at a doctor's office (though it was my mothers, I actually worked and could get a letter from the Office manager rather than my mom)

Going to start + be President for a club as soon as senior year starts (religious club though, and its a little late)

FBLA one year, won 2nd and third at regional but didn't attend state due to scheduling conflicts

Mock Trial one year (its only been at our school for 2) and was promised an excellent letter from the teacher in charge

Very involved with the local church, helped lead a youth group for 5th through 8th grade boys

Hobbies: Online games, and a forum moderator for an online game site (not the main company site, its 3rd party) with over 200k+ registered accounts and usually at least 200 people online at any given time

And I plan to get letters from 3 teachers, one person from the church to talk about my activeness in their things, the office manager at the workplace (my mom is CEO though, should I ask her?) to show responsibility at the workplace, one from the Mock Trial teacher....

And for essays I know one is going to talk about coming from a family of doctors, going to the hospital with mom during her residency and seeing hospital life, basically seeing all aspects of medicine from a close and personal viewpoint and seeing disease in people around me (e.g. I had recurring, severe Erythema nodosum almost every other year since 6th grade, asthma, very healthy grandfather who deteriorated after a car accident most likely because of the depression of becoming crippled in a single incident) and a desire to help.....

Any suggestions? Chances at Hopkins ED? I know my EC's are a little weak, but HOPEFULLY doing ED will help balance that out.....

Oh, and is declining to mark your race a good idea from someone who is Indian or Middle Eastern? Asian? I know that mentioning your race doesn't exactly "help" most but would declining hurt?

Okay this is a BUMP post

your stats are solid. they shouldn’t hold you back.

your ecs seem ok. i personally think it would be great to have some sort of talent like playing an instrument, sports, or having a great voice for singing or even dancing or something…and it would be nice if you did science olympiad or was involved in some sort of biology ec to have extra experience… but i guess mock trial and fbla + extra are interesting ECs…awards are nice but it’s good to have activities you are have been doing a long time and are committed to. also, i dont see much leadership experience.

try not to sound too one-dimensional in your essays (i.e. having to do with premed–>medicine). pick things that highlight your strengths and would make you a great fit for the univeristy. you want genuine stuff, yes, but you also want to let the adcom know you are great or interested in many things. you come to college to test your boundaries and to learn. you come to hopkins to get a strong and broad liberal arts education and to use it’s great resources…to learn under the leaders in an array of fields along with some of the brightest and most motivated students in the country…but what do you specifically add to the university? whats your skill set? what makes you a good fit in terms of what you are looking for in a college experience and what hopkins offers?

why do you want to major in bio by the way? it’s such a popular major for premeds… dont pick bio just because you are premed. there are other majors like behavioral biol, neuro, biophysics, cell and molecular bio, etc. that probably get less applications and are still great majors for premeds because you’ll get all the pre-reqs out of the way. also consider non conventional majors… anything that interests you based on your coursework in hs, really. you have to remember that hopkins will want every/most majors to have strong representation from the incoming class… ie you def wont see 1200 bio majors accepted. look through the majors, take a look at their features, requirements, resources, etc. pick something you are genuinely interested in.

so your chances? id say you have a good chance, but you are not a lock. put some real effort into those essays in terms of selling yourself, how you describe your ECs and strengths etc. and all the stuff i mentioned above and you have a great chance.

You have good chance of getting into JHU under ED. Good luck.
Chance me please.
