JHU Early Decision Forum

@Bjsk666 I’ve been going on jogs everyday to clear my head and just kind of occupying myself with things to keep my mind off it! I just know if I really start thinking about it I’m going to lose my head and have like an anxiety attack!

Guys, stay calm. Take showers. when I get nervous or anxious or just have a lot on my mind and my thoughts are racing, I take a nice shower. It’ll cool you off

@silvertippedcities same!! Jogs are nice. agh me too I’m already nervous when thinking about logging in!
@yoloswag2014 haha great advice

Our school sent first quarter grades on Tuesday. Should I call admissions to let them know? Or should I email someone?

do we have to send those grades?

Nope, my school doesn’t. I know they will contact the school if they want them, but not required

@eps they may not be required but I would think most schools including JHU would request them. First quarter/term grades of senior year are pretty important. That isn’t to say that they could tip your admissions decision the wrong way. The admissions department understands that this term is often one of the hardest in all of high school with the greatest workload, along with extracurriculars and college applications themselves.

I don’t have any official report though, I don’t get an official report card until the end of january. They also never mentioned anything about sending in grades. Did you send your grades in?

I did not. Hopkins didn’t ask for them on their website. I called admissions a few days ago and they also said we don’t need anything before your official grades :)

Guys, if we get in ED, we get first pick on dorms…how wonderful is that? :D

@AAustin there was a 150 word essay?? I just reread that post, can anyone confirm that there was another 150 word essay???

No… there was only the Common App essay and the JHU supplement essay (500 words). There’s was nothing else on Common App

whew i just had a panic moment

how many people do you think applied ed?

there’s usually 1,500 per year that apply ED, so probably around that…

ya last year was 1450 so you’re probably right

@eps my school has trimesters, the first of which ended just before Thanksgiving, so I have first term grades already and they have been sent. My school sends the entire transcript complete with first term senior year grades. I don’t know their policy on not sending grades though

i looked it up and it says for schools with semesters they will call your counselor for first quarter grades if they feel like they need to. also it says that your counselor can’t tell you if they called or not so you will never know if they saw your senior grades or not. but thats just for schools that don’t give out official report cards until the end of january i guess.

1450 is actually so little people, considering it’s for the entire world. How many international ED applicants are there? Probably MUCH fewer. Plus, I’m from Canada, so I would be only competing with international ED applicants from my region, making the applicant pool even smaller for me. That’s either a really good thing (hopefully) or a really bad thing, depending on the caliber of the applicant pool this year…

@Yoloswag14 I disagree. I think the international applicant pool to JHU ed is pretty big. JHU is known internationally because of its medicine and engineering (a bit for SAIS). Maybe from Canada the % is small. But if you are talking about Asian applicants I would disagree.
