JHU Economics

1) Is there a foreign language requirement for economics majors?
2) What are H, Q, N, E, and SPSBE courses in the checklist website? Link: jhu.edu/advising/images/checklistspdf/EconomicsMajor_Checklist.pdf
3) Is it possible to switch from engineering to economics before the summer starts? I've reignited an interest in economics recently and am keen in majoring in it.
4) Does JHU have a respectable Econ program?

1) I am pretty sure there is no foreign language requirement

2) H = Humanities (foreing language, history, english, etc). Q = Quantitative studies (math, etc.). N = Natural sciences (chemistry, biology, etc). E = Engineering. Most majors have distibution requirements that require a certain number of credits in each of these areas. For example, I am an engineering major and I have to take atleast 18 credits of humantities/social sciences to graduate. I have no idea what SPSBE courses are

3) It is definitely possible to switch. I know a lot of people that switched from engineering to arts & sciences during the summer before their freshman year. You have to e-mail somebody, but I can't remember who (sorry). Maybe you should try e-mail academic advising?

4) I think that Hopkins economics program is respectable, but I am not really familiar with it. I do know that there are tons of people majoring in it and people that have majored in it have gone onto good graduate schools/law schools/etc. or got good jobs after graduation.

xnwc87: thanks! do you happen to have the link to the jhu course survey(where students rank 1-5 on different criteria for every class)?

The Academic Course Evaluation guide is avaliable online, but only to people directly on the Hopkins network. When you get your email addresses in the summer, you will be able to VPN into the network and access the ACE Guide.

there has to be some sort of link because i was viewing it just yesterday! It's like a few hundred page pdf and it was sorted by fall/spring semester and a&s/engineering.

Is this it? <a href="http://www.jhu.edu/registrar/aceguide/ACEGuide2005.pdf%5B/url%5D">http://www.jhu.edu/registrar/aceguide/ACEGuide2005.pdf</a></p>

Yeah, that's it. If you can access it from home, then great. I remember that last year, it would deny you access unless you were on the Hopkins network.

Would an econ major come out with a BS or BA?
